Dear Dheeraj,Thanks for all the information that you have provided as this is an eye opener for people like us sitting in a warm and cozy place like Mumbai.I am planning for a road trip from Mumbai to Himachal in my BMW 3 series from April end to May mid all together almost 20-25 days. Last year had done the same to Uttarakhand in these months all the way up to Gangotri. I actually wanted to go either to leh or Spiti Valley in this trip. My partners in crime is my better half and my 5 yr old son. Will it be possible for me to do either leh or spiti Valley from Manali in mid May using my Beamer or should I consider an alternate Suv from Manali on rent as I wanna self drive. My present itinerary planned is as followsMumbai – Jaipur – mashobra – Dalhousie – Chamba – Dharamshala – Manali – n then to Spiti or leh which ever is possible n back to Mumbai.Your guidance on above will help another devil on wheels to have a safe n memorable trip. Thanks in advanceBest regardsCapt. Trilok
Hello Captain Trilok,
Thank you for the warm words.
Can you postpone your trip, say like, one month or so? like mid May to mid June? Actually the roads are not open during April or are in very bad shape and Ladakh roads are closed.
You should target, Spiti Valley, Kinnaur Valley and other parts of Himachal Pradesh like Dalhousie, Dharamshala, Manali and Tirthan Valley along with it. Otherwise if you want to club Leh – Ladakh then you should make a trip from late-May going from Srinagar – Leh side, then coming from Spiti Valley – Kinnaur Valley side in the month of June after covering Ladakh as the roads will open by that time.
