Hope you and family is keeping good health and having great time. With your great support me and my friends could travel to Leh and back in 2016 and your itinerary and suggestions made everything easy for us.
This year me and my wife is planning to travel to Leh and and my idea of trip is as below.
Aug:25 Saturday reach Srinagar from Bangalore. Do shikara ride in Dal lake in the evening and spend the night at Srinagar.
Aug: 26 Sunday morning travel to Kargil and night at Kargil
Aug: 27 Monday travel to Leh from Kargil visiting Lamayuru and Alchi.
Aug: 28 Tuesday Acclimatisation at Leh and post noon visit local sight seeing
Aug:29 Wednesday Travel to Tso Moriri visiting Shey Thicksey and Hemis night at Tsomoriri
Aug 30 Thursday Travel back to Leh
Aug 31 Friday Visit Pangong Tso and overnight stay
Sep 1st Saturday return to Leh and complete balance local sight seeing
Sep 2nd Sunday return to Bangalore by flight from Leh
This is my idea about the whole trip. I request your suggestion and modification to make it more better. The following is my queries
1) Is it okey to travel in the last week of August as in your blogs i read August we can expect rains and landslides.
2) Is this itinerary is fine or i should do some modifications to make most out of it as I didn’t find a gap to touch Nubra and Kardungla
3) Once I get your approval i will post the trip plan in Travel Calendar to find like minded people to share cost
Please revert to me so that I can go ahead with flight bookings.
Thanks in Advance
I am doing good, family too, thank you for asking. I hope you doing great too with your family and very happy to see you back with the same trust in DoW as before 🙂
Regarding the itinerary, I will highly recommend that you drop Tso Moriri for now and do like 4 day trip to Nubra Valley and Pangong Tso without coming back to Leh.
Day 1 – Leh to Turtuk
Day 2 – Turtuk – Hunder/Deskit
Day 3 – Hunder/Deskit – Pangong Tso via Shyok or Wari La
Day 4 – Pangong Tso – Hemis/Thicksey-Shey – Leh
1. Regarding your plan, in August surely you may face rain hassles until you reach Leh in lower hills of Kashmir. Can you fly directly to Leh?
2. Suggested above.
3. Feel free to post it.
Thanks a lot.
Yes I can fly directly to Leh and yes if weather permits i will go till Kargil and come back as we wish to see the war memorials and pay our respect to our heros.
As u suggested I can make a plan without coming back to leh covering Turtuk, Hunder and Pangong, and hope last week of August there won’t be much rain in these places to trouble us during our road trip and if possible can u suggest some good homestay or accommodation options in Turtuk, Hunder or Deskit and Pangong Tso.
Any other thing I should keep in mind. Just would like to ask can I get shared taxis to the above places without prebooking after reaching Leh, and if so how much do they charge.
Then do it like:
Day 1 | Delhi – Leh (By Flight)
— Checkin at Hotel. Many hotels provide free pick and drop from Airport. Ask while you book them.
— Take ample of rest as well as water or anything that keep your body hydrated enough. DO NOT OVER HYDRATE. Take ORS Soluted water or ORS – L tetra packs from home.
— Do not over exert your body at any cost. Avoid too much up-down on stairs or avoid it in entirety, if possible.
— After 5-6 Hrs of rest you can visit Leh Palace, Local Leh market, Shankar Gompa .
— If you feel exerted go back to Hotel, have dinner at Hotel and take rest. Avoid any exertion. Else continue and,
— Follow the sunset by stroll at Changspa road and have a nice dinner on varied cuisines offered in-around Changspa road.
— Go back to hotel for overnight stay at Leh.
Day 2 | Leh – Lamayuru – Kargil
Day 3 | Kargil – Drass – Kargil – Sham Valley/Alchi/Leh
And then follow the 4 day plan mentioned above.
Weather is crazy in the whole world, so nothing is certain but in general you are good with this plan.
Shared taxis will be difficult for above plan unless you find people of same interest. Then you are better off doing Leh – Nubra two days and Leh – Pangong tso two days which is more common for tourist shared taxis.
Thanks a lotDheeraj
I got a better deal and hence booked up & down flights to Leh from Delhi. So we have 8 full days to explore and let me post the same in Dow travel calendar and see if anybody is there to share the taxi cost so that planning can be done
That is wonderful, have a great trip Sudeep and feel free to share your experience and travel updates with us too 🙂
