Dear Dheeraj,
Has been going thru your Ladak travel tips and suggestions. You are doing an immensely great help to all those travelers allured to Ladak.
We (4 adults and 3 kids of ~10 yrs) are planning Ladak between Aug 4th (fly to Leh) and Aug 11th (reach Manali by road). Will below itinerary work? Planning to hire taxi from Leh. We are ok to skip 1 extra day in Manali and add in the Ladak leg (without adding any new places) if that helps to ease out the schedule. Any suggestions?
Day 1: Delhi – Leh. Stay at Leh
Day 2: Leh local visits in the evening (Hall of Fame, shopping, etc). Stay at Leh
Day 3 : Leh – Gurudwara Pathar Sahib – Sangam – river rafting – Alchi monastery – Leh
Day 4: Leh – Khardung La – Diskit monastery – Hunder sand duens. Stay at Hunder
Day 5: Hunder – Tangtse (via Leh bypass) – Pangong Tso (sunset) – Tangtse. Stay at Tangtse
Day 6: Tangtse – Pangong Tso (sunrise) – Tso Kar – Jispa (via Karu). Stay at Jispa
Day 7: Jispa – Manali. Stay at Manali
Day 8: Manali local visit. Manali – Delhi by night bus

Hello Ajith,

I will suggest something like below:

Day 1: Delhi – Leh. Stay at Leh
Day 2: Leh local visits in the evening (Hall of Fame, shopping, etc). Stay at Leh
Day 3: Leh – Khardung La – Diskit monastery – Hunder sand duens. Stay at Hunder
Day 4: Hunder – Shyok Village – Pangong Tso (if the route is open) else go back to Leh
Day 5: Pangong Tso – Changa la – Leh
Day 6: Leh – Taglang La – Sarchu – Jispa (via Karu). Stay at Jispa
Day 7: Jispa – Manali. Stay at Manali
Day 8: Manali local visit. Manali – Delhi by night bus

OR in case the direct route is closed and you dont find company

Day 4: Hunder – Khardung La – Leh
Day 5: Leh – Changa la – Pangong Tso
Day 6: Pangong Tso – Sarchu (leave by 6 AM)
Day 7: Sarchu – Manali. Stay at Manali
Day 8: Manali local visit. Manali – Delhi by night bus

Thanks Dheeraj for your valuable inputs. Basis the feedback that the initial itinerary is a little too cramped, i\’ve rescheduled as below (basically cut out the road trip to Manali and is spending an extra day each in Leh and Hunder)
We plan to stay overnight at Pangong Tso on Aug 10th (i.e., Day 7th and previous night is at Leh). Is this suggested on AMS perspective, especially since 3 kids are in the group? We are very keen to see sunset and surise at Pangong, however if it is too risky with kids to stay overnight, then we may very well drop it. Google search didn\’t through many instance of people staying with kids at Panging
Aug 4: Delhi – Leh. Stay at Leh
Aug 5: Leh local visits in the evening (Hall of Fame, shopping, etc). Stay at Leh
Aug 6: Leh – Gurudwara Pathar Sahib – Sangam – river rafting – Alchi monastery – Leh
Aug 7: Leh – Khardung La – Diskit monastery. Stay at Hunder
Aug 8: Hunder sand dunes. Stay at Hunder
Aug 9: Diksit – Sumur – Panamik – Sumur – Khardung La – Leh
Aug 10: Leh – Chang La – Pangong Tso (sunset)
Aug 11: Pangong Tso (sunrise) – Chang La – Leh
Aug 12: Leh – Delhi

Ajith, the plan looks nice and easy to me. You should enjoy it with ease. Take plenty of fluids to avoid AMS. Also, it does not depend upon age for AMS, both kids and adults are equally vulnerable to it.
