Hi Dheeraj,
I am planning a trip to Bhutan in May 2018 for 10 days. Will take flight to Bagdogra from Ahmedbad. Then hire a vehicle (self drive) and drive to Timphu.
Could you please help me in planning a itinerary for this trip. Also, please guide me as to what processes needs to be taken care of when crossing the border.  Also please share the details of good stay options.
Please share as much detail as possible.
Regard.
Anand Parekh

Hello Anand,
Point number 1 is you won\’t get self drive cars here for Bhutan. You have to hire a taxi with driver and I suggest you to hire Bhutanese cars only. For permits you need any of the documents from Voter ID Card or Passport or Driving License for Adults and birth certificate or school id card for infants or minors and 4 copies of recent colour pp size photos. Aadhar card is accepted only with the endorsement from the Indian Embassy in Bhutan. PAN card is not accepted as valid documents. Another point to remember is you need to have advance hotel booking receipts for applying for permits. The permits are completely a biometric process. For the itinerary I would suggest the following,
Day 1: Reach Bagdogra and get transfered to Phuentsholing.
Day 2: Make permits and drive to Paro.
Day 3: Explore Paro
Day 4: Drive to Haa via the highest pass on Dantak road, Che-Le La, and sightseeing enroute
Day 5: Drive from Haa to Thimpu
Day 6: Explore Thimpu
Day 7: Thimpu to Gangtey via stopover at Dochula Pass and Punakha Song.
Day 8: Explore Gangtey
Day 9: Drive from Gangtey to Phuentsholing
Day 10: Phuentsholing to Bagdogra
There are lots of good properties in Bhutan, from heritage stays to upscale hotels and farm houses and homestays but little pricier than compared to many places in India and their services are also far far better.
Please do ask for any help you might require for your trip from booking hotels, permit assistance, taxi booking or anything else.
Cheers,
Soumen

Hello Soumen and Dheeraj,
First let me thank you for your comments on leh ladakh trip. Our trip was really successful last year.
I am planning a trip to Bhutan in 2018. I would like to rent my own motorbikes. Can you recommend us a itinerary for 10 days- 12 days including arrival and departure from Bhutan. Also how about the permits? We all are Indian nationals. We already did our Leh- ladakh bike trip in 2017 so we are quite experienced in biking.  Also if you have some links regarding bike rental, that would help us.

Hello Rangarajan,
For itinerary,
Day 1 Reach Bagdogra or Siliguri collect and inspect your bikes and stay over night in Siliguri.
Day 2 Reach Phuentsholing and do the permit process. On Saturday, Sunday and Bhutan national holidays, permits are not issued. For permits you need passport or voter ID and recent colour photos. Also you need hotel booking receipts for permits. After obtaining the permits you have to go to the Vehicle permit office and get your bikes permit after paying the per day fees. Stay overnight at Phuentsholing.
Day 3 Ride from Phuentsholing to Thimpu
Day 4 Explore Thimpu and get the permits for the rest of the journey
Day 5 Drive from Thimpu to Gangtey
Day 6 Explore Phobjika Valley
Day 7 Drive from Phobjika to Paro
Day 8 Trek to Takshang Monastery
Day 9 Drive from Paro to Haa
Day 10 Drive from Haa to Phuentsholing
Day 11 Drive from Phuentsholing to Siliguri and return the bikes and take your return flight or train

If you require bikes we can arrange it for you
