Need advice for my October 2017 Spiti trip

  • vikranttongale on #25352

    Hi DOW members,

I am Vikrant T, from Mumbai.

Kudos to this communityfor valuable guidance.

I am psoting this thread because I need to cutmize my plan.

I have to make a Spiti valley tour plan in mid of October 2017 alongwith friends.

We have planned flying directly to Shimla and returning by flight from Manali to Mumbai.

The complete timing for the trip will be 8 days 8 nights from Shimla to Manali.

Vehicle will be a tempo traveller.

I want to cover the following locations :

    Shimla

    Sarahan

    Kalpa

    Chitkul

    Sangla

    Tabo

    Kaza

    Kibber

    Chandratal

    Sisu

    Manali

We are ready to travel more distance to cover more places rather than spending night needlessly between two places which are not far off.

Also, we can skip any of these locations if they are repetitive.

    Is it advisable.

Is the DC permit required for above said places ?

Please guide with reference to current year weather and travel conditions.

    Thanks,

    Vikrant T

    Hi Vikrant,

October mid is a bit of touch and go usually, but going by the trend in past 2-3 years, you should be able to make it comfortably. Expect cold in most of the places. The scenery will be beautiful with autumn colours. No permits needed for your route.

You can follow something like this:

Day 1: Shimla- Narkanda (Hatu) – Sarahan

Day 2: Sarahan – Sangla – Chitkul – Sangla (or stay in Sangla only)

Day 3: Chhitkul – Peo – Kalpa (and villages around it, like Roghi – suicide point etc) – dont miss sunset on Kinner Kailash

    Day 4: Kalpa – Pooh – Nako Lake – Geyu – Tabo

    Day 5 : Tabo – Dhangkar – Kaza; Kaza – Hikkim – Langza – Kaza

    Day 6: Kaza – Kei – Kibber – Chicham – Losar

Day 7: Losar – Kunzum La – Chandratal

    Day 8: Chandratal – Batal -Chhatru – Gramhu – rohtang – Manali

Traveling long distances you will only be on the road and unable to soak in the beauty of the place. Also, whether a night is needed or needless entirely depends on you. Please do note that in the above itinerary, Day 2, Day 3 and Day 6 are relatively short distances to cover.

Dheeraj bhai Vinod bhai Thank you for the reply.

As per your reply Day 2, Day 3 and Day 6 are short, can the above mentioned itinerary be properly customized for 7 days starting from Shimla on Day 1 and ending on Manali at Day 7.

Will Sisu or other place in Lahaul be covered in this plan ?

    Regards,

    Vikrant

I will just suggest a slight variation of what Vinod bhai has recommended

Day 1: Shimla- Narkanda (Hatu) – Sarahan

Day 2: Sarahan – Sangla – Chitkul – Sangla (or stay in Sangla only)

Day 3: Chhitkul – Peo – Kalpa (and villages around it, like Roghi – suicide point etc) – dont miss sunset on Kinner Kailash

    Day 5 : Tabo – Dhangkar – Kaza; Kaza – Hikkim – Langza – Kaza

    Day 6: Kaza – Kei – Kibber – Chicham – Losar – Chandratal

    Hi All,

Thank you Dheeraj bhai & other members for valuable support.
We have planned Spiti trip from 5th Oct 2018 to 13th Oct 2018.
Trip will be starting from Shimla and ending at Chandigarh covering the Spiti loop via Sangla Sarahan Kalpa Kinner Kailash Tabo Dhankar Kibber Kaza Chandrataal Manali
Considering the harsh weather changes is it advisable to complete the loop trip ?
