  1. Hi Dheeraj,

Me and my friend are planning for Leh Ladakh trip. We have time from June 17th to July 8th and would like to cover the whole circuit, i.e., Delhi, srinagar, leh, manali, Dalhousie and Sach pass too. Please suggest the best itinerary for me. If you can also help me with the car rentals who also provide a driver would be great.
    Thanks,
    Puneeth

    • You can check a very balanced and most common itinerary for Leh – Ladakh followed by many travellers including me at the link here for 13-14 days: Most Common Itinerary for Leh – Ladakh.

Now you can modify the above plan to include Sach Pass in your add on days as below:
Sarchu – Keylong (instead of Manali in the article)
      Keylong – Udaipur – Killar
Killar – Sach Pass – Bairagarh – Chamba
      Chamba – Dalhousie/Khajjiar
      Return home

      • Thanks so much for the reply.. I’m hearing in news that there are riots going on in Jammu and my friend’s are advising to avoid the route. But I really wish to go via Srinagar to enjoy the long journey and views. What do you suggest? Is it safe to go via Jammu and srinagar to Leh? We mostly hire a car along with driver to go Leh from Delhi.

    • For the leh – ladakh taxi union rate list 2017 – 18 including the contacts of some reliable taxi drivers within Leh – Ladakh, check the link here. You can get about 12-15% of discount by directly getting in touch with drivers and of course, talking in person rather on phone always help in bargaining more. Hi,
I am planning to go to kaza from delhi by car this weekend, can u please give any update on road conditions and where we can stay on the way to kaza. Last year we went upto sangla so I am little aware about road conditions upto sangla. If possible please give detail of some good budget hotels also.

    • Ratnesh, if you planning to come back from Manali side, the route will not be open. You can travel to Kaza from Shimla – Kinnaur route and may have to come back from the same route. You can get connected directly to some drivers in Himachal or Spiti Valley or Kinnaur Valley at the link: List of Taxi Drivers for Spiti Valley & Kinnaur Valley. These drivers can come and pick you up from Manali / Shimla / Delhi / Chandigarh too, of course with a price of the pickup as well.

The rates of the taxis are about Rs 3200-3500 per day depending on the number of days you plan to travel, more the days, less the price. If you are 2-3 in the group, you can opt for sedan taxi cars as well which charges around Rs 2200 per day.

Otherwise, taxis, in general, are also available on the spot from Shimla or Manali from respective taxi stands. These drivers can help you with finding local stay options too.

For stay options in Kinnaur and Spiti, check the link: Some Good Options of Stays in Spiti Valley / Kinnaur Valley.

You can keep an average of 900-1200 per person per day for food and stay on the tour to Spiti Valley.

      • RAJENDRAKUMAR JOSHI on

        Dear Sir,
Last year I could not go due to extreme personal reasons.
This year I am making up my mind to visit Ladakh on a self driven SUV in May 2018. I have collected enough information from your replies.
But I have different tension. My driving in India is merely 10 %, mostly I have driven in gulf countries. I am used to drive automatic cars & SUVs. Manual driving is quite rare. My plan is to start from Srinagar side and return via Manali route. My questions are :
        1. First of all, is it recommend for me to drive on Indian roads? can I drive automatic SUV or need to drive manual only? Any particular model? 2×4 or 4×4? Precautions – general / specific?
        2. Which location would be convenient for renting / returning the vehicle? Delhi, Chandigarh, Amritsar, Jammu or Srinagar. Best suggested car renting agencies.
        3. Any particular driving locations / spots where I should be extra careful? Safety concerns in J & K, especially on the route between Jammu – Leh.
        4. Should I take a driver with me on a safe side?
        5. Is driving in Ladakh allowed or take taxi for sightseeing?
        6. Best suggested itinerary to explore in minimum days?
Your kind guidance will be highly valuable to me and my trip quite memorable.

        Best Regards,
        R D Joshi.

        • Hello RD,

          1. As you do not have much experience of driving in India, it will be difficult for you to drive especially when the roads are just open during May end. Better to travel with AWD or 4×4 in inital days if you can get hold of any. You can drive Automatic too. 7 Useful Tips for a Self Drive to Leh – Ladakh
          2. Delhi will be best to rent and return
          3. You have to be careful mostly throughout but around Zojila Pass and Manali – Leh HIghway along with other passes in Ladakh will pose challenges to you.
          4. I will better advice you take one driver with you.
          5. For sightseeing in Ladakh in outside rented car, you cannot do so. You will have to rent a local taxi and ask him to drive one. IF it is a personal car you can drive anywhere in Ladakh
          6. You can check a very balanced and most common itinerary for Leh – Ladakh followed by many travellers including me at the link here for 13-14 days: Most Common Itinerary for Leh – Ladakh.

          Regards

  4. Prateek Jalan on

    Hi,

I am travelling from Delhi. My flight will land Delhi at around 8:30 AM. I want to visit Narkanda, Sarahan, Sangla, Kalpa, Rakcham, Chitkul, Nako, Tabo, Kaza, Rohtang Pass, Solang Valley.

My return flight from Delhi is on June 11 at 9 PM.

I guess these places are in the same route. Can I cover these places in this time frame? Could you please suggest the best places which I should visit. Will Chandratal come on the route? Is that place motorable? We will not be able to trek a lot.

    • Hey Prateek, it will be touch and go and hopes are the only thing I can offer that Manali – Kaza route will open by that time of the year. Chandratal route is very dicey and you may need to trek alot during that time of that 14 KMs.

      • Prateek Jalan on

Thanks for the response. By when can we expect to know the condition of the Manali – Kaza route ? By when does it usually open ?

Also could you please by what time do people usually book homestays in these places? We can book these only if we are visiting these places. If there is no confirmation how do people manage the trips ? I am scared that I may book the hotels now and the trip gets modified due to closure of route. Then the booking amount gets wasted. And, if we wait till the last moment, the rooms might get booked. Please guide us on this.

        Thanks

  5. Hi Dheeraj,

Last year we group of 7 friends had a Road Trip to Leh (via Scorpio). It was from Nasik (maharashtra) to Leh. While going we chose Srinagar-Leh and coming back Leh-Manali. We followed all the notions, tips you’ve provided on your site and I must say each and every piece on your blog is just BANG man. You are crazy! Right from distance, weather, food, culture, prices, traffic uff – one just name it and cross check on your blog and its there and 100% accurate. We found the lack of our study of your portal during our road trip, but never mind, its just a beginning. Himalaya and especially Ladakh hypnotized us and no doubt there will be rounds of trip going forward and as long as DoW is there – no worries \M/

  9. Harsh Pathak on

    Hello Dhreeraj,
Firstly I thank you for your opinion in May 2015. I really appreciate your sugggestion to drop tso moriri and add Sham valley in itinerary.
This is my 2nd trip to Leh in June ’17. We are 4 riders and a mechanic with a bike. I need your help/suggestions/opinion regarding road conditions of “Nubra valley to pangong tso via Shyok Village”. As we are having 4 bikes 500 CC and a mechanic with his own bike, can we take that route? We have kept whole day to reach pangong as we want to take night stay there.

    Regards.
    Harsh

    • Hi Harsh,

Since, you will have multiple machines, that route should be OK to travel Also, now a days more people have started traveling on that route, so, that should be OK. Just make sure that your bikes are not giving any problem before going into that route.

    • Dear Harsh ,Iam planning to visit leh in 2017 june with my family for 7nights 8days so pls suggest me the best itinerary for the trip . I would request you to guide me in details along with accommodation and sight seeing .

  10. Hi, can i drive a hatchback for crossing sach pass and that too in march second week?

    • Aman, Sach Pass opens up in last week of June, so in March it is not possible at all. Also, doing it in hatchback will mean lots of challenges and punishing the vehicle.

  12. Mehul Jain on

    Hi

We are a group of 5, 4 females and 1 male. We are planning a trip to Ladakh from May 21, 2017. We are planning to hire a cab out of Leh. The tentative programme is as under:

1 21st May Sun Fly Delhi to Leh

2 22nd May Mon Leh- full day- (Lamayuru/Alchi region)

3 23rd May Tue Leh Full Day

4 24th May Wed Leh to turtuk- via Nubra

5 25th May Thu Turtuk and around

6 26th May Fri Turtuk to Pangong

7 27th May Sat Pangong and around

8 28th May Sun Pangong to Hanle

9 29th May Mon Hanle to Tso Moriri

10 30th May Tue Tso moriri to Leh

    11 31st May Wed Leh

12 1st Jun Thu Leave (fly) to Delhi

    The questions are as under:

    1. Nights 6,7,8 and 9 will be in Pangong, Hanle and Tso Moriri- all are at altitude close to 4500 mtrs above msl. Will this be doable- or will the weather be very hostile for May end?

    2. Can we expect the routes from Turtuk to Pangong, Pangong to Hanle and Tso Moriri to Leh to be open during this period?

Thanks in advance for your responses.

    Mehul Jain

    • Hello Mehul,

Turtuk to Pangong Tso can be long but doable, better come from Turtuk and stay at Hunder or Deskit in the evening. You can start from Turtuk like 4 PM to reach by evening.

      1. That shall be fine. In case of trouble you cna go over for one night (7) at Tangtse for a stay but more or less it should be fine. May will surely be gonna very cold, so do go prepared and especially in Tso Moriri you may not find place of stay, so you may go over to Chumathang to stay there.

      2. Yes, the route will be open during this time through Agham – Shyok. But, only do it if you have company with you else avoid and come back to Leh.

  13. Varsha Kunhody on

Hi, I am unable to reach you on the number mentioned above. Kindly let me know if there is an alternate number I can reach you on. Thanks.

  15. Manish Garg on

    Hi all,

I wants to go manali in december from 21st and i also want to visit manali to kalol-kheeerganga.. is that right plan. if yes so can you tell me how can i reach from manali -kasol – kheerganga..?

    • Manish, Kheerganga will not be possible during that time of the year. You can indeed visit Kasol from Manali and it takes about 2-2.5 hrs to reach Kasol from Manali. From Bhunter you need to go right towards Kasol – Manikaran road.

      • Manish Garg on

        thankyou sir,

I have 10 days for the trip and this is my first trip in Himachal Pradesh so can you guide me like how can it be more memorable Christmas..?

helo sir,i am planing to go ladakh soon ,so i want take truly info, about road condition i start manali to tsokar to mahi to tso morir after that imay u tell me sir i shoud chose or not loma to hanale road is that safe for every one &.someone told me when people travel on this road then they feel driving on moon so is that true according to you that’s all

      • rajesh kumar on

ok sir i understand this route is not safe for every trouist but you did’t write about loma or hanale road condition such as is that true people can see easly star in the night & i must say that i shoud go or not according to you sir , may i take your mob no sir , if you don’t mind

        • Rajesh, Loma and Hanle you can go as well. But, I am not saying to go from Manali – Leh Highway directly. First go to Leh, spend some nights there and then go over to Nubra Valley, then Pangong Tso. After getting the permit either you can go directly from Pangong Tso to Loma – Hanle – Tso Moriri or from Leh you cn go to Loma – Hanle and then Tso Moriri and then exit from Manali – Leh HIghway directly.

This is easy way of doing it and, you will find stars almost from all the remote places in Ladakh except limited visibility in Leh.

    • Raja, roads to Ladakh now will open by the end of May or June early. I will suggest you to make the plan at that time of the year now.

Firstly, I will suggest you that please plan it in other direction as going via Srinagar – Leh Highway will be much much easier on your body and help you acclimatize to the high altitude of Manali – Leh Highway. Also, it allows you to enjoy the beauty of Manali – Leh by splitting the journey almost evenly in two days which is very difficult in the other direction. Thirdly, it will allow you to fit Tso Moriri lake into the itinerary in better way. You can read more reasons on the link here

Can you please suggest suitable itinerary ?
Is it possible to enjoy some snow during November as planned ?
For small family of 3 people, please suggest the kind of vehicle to hire and from where.
Is it possible to accommodate Manali & Solang valley ?

I WANT TO HIRE A BIKE FROM MANALI TO LEH AND BACK TO MANALI FOR 10 DAYS. FROM WHERE I CAN HIRE A BIKE AND WHAT WILL BE THE PRICE AND SECURITY DEPOSIT.
ALSO I WANT TO KNOW THAT IS IT SAFE NOW TO TRAVEL IN PRESENT CONDITION LIKE CURFEW AND ALL . ARE THE ROOTS OPEN FOR TOURIST OR ITS UNDER CURFEW.
    I AM PLANNING FROM 11 OCT 2016 TO 25 OCT 2016.
    PLEASE HELP ME

    • Hi Rahul,

It is not recommended to travel from Srinagar side due to curfew and unrest. You can do road trip from Manali side and come back from Manali side. There are plenty of bike rental shops in Manali and you can very well rent the bikes after thoroughly inspecting them for any issues. The rates are from 1000-1300 per day depending on the model you choose.

  23. Hello Dheeraj,
    Hope you are doing well.
Your inputs are really helpful. Me & my wife is planning a road trip from Delhi to Spiti valley & Kaja. Leaving Delhi on 17th Sep’16 early morning & return Delhi by 25th Sep. Is this an enough time to explore the places? Moreover, I will be taking my new i20 elite…hope it will not face any problem with the ground clearance & power.

Kindly suggest on the route map day wise. It will really help me.
Look forward to hear from you soon.

    Best Regards,

    Avijit Lahiri

      • Dear Dheeraj,

        Thank you for writing in.
For me to extend the days will be tough. Moreover, I don’t want to take the Manali route while returning to Delhi. I would prefer the same route of Shimla. So kindly suggest the best options…
Also I wanted to check on the vehicle(as mentioned in my previous query). Do you want me to carry around 10 L of petrol in a jar?

        Look forward to your reply.

        Best Regards,
        Avijit

        • This means you have 9 days at hand and can follow a plan like below:

          Day 8 | Kalpa/Sangla – Chitkul – Sarahan
Day 9 | Sarahan – Delhi (long drive but as last day you can rest at home)

        • Dheeraj, Thank you very much for the details on the route map.
Lastly, Where should i stay in my journey so that i cover the route in 9-10 days. Please help me with the contact details of the hotel guy.

    5. 13-16 Sep: Leh, Nubra Vallye, Lakes via Bike. Pick up bikes from Leh only
    6. 17-Sep : Return Flight to Delhi

Do you think it is doable itinerary? Any good option to take car from Manali and Bikes from Leh on rent?

    • Sachin, with just three days in Leh you can only do below:

      1. Leh Rest day and acclimatization
      2. Day trip to Khardung La or Nubra Valley
      3. Day trip to Pangong Tso lake.

      • Sachin Sharma on

Thanks a ton Dheeraj, You are doing a gr8 Job. Now we have finalised our plan and will be flying directly into Leh from Mumbai and back. So this will leave us clear 8 days to roam around based on a post on your blog.
Now my question is about Bike hiring. There are few contact given in one of the threads but my worry is about Bike Issue. How safe is to go without a backup vehicle. I enquired with few operators and they are charging heavily for having a backup vehicle. So If we just go on our own and if bike breaks down/puncture, then how to deal with such situations. You advice pls…

        • Sachin, frankly speaking in case of puncture you cannot do much than to hope it does not happen or happen near a big town or some army settlement area. Thankfully, since you will be in Ladakh only, the mobile connectivity has been tremendously improved even in the remote places. Hence, if you have couple of bikes, you should be good to go. Else, there are some puncture resistance liquids that comes

  27. Amita Sawardekar on

    Hi Dheeraj

We are 2 friends planning a road trip from Manali to Leh in the 1st week of September. We want to start our journey from Chandigarh airport. Where can we book a taxi at the best price for a one way journey?

  28. Ronak Chandak on

    Hi Dheeraj.

Firstly, your enthusiasm to help and guide amateur travellers like us is commendable! Thank you in advance.

I am planning Manali-Leh trip during the end of Sept 2016.

    1. Is calling a bike from Leh to Manali advisable? This is so that we needn’t hire Ladakh reg bikes for Nubhra and Pangong lake and can avoid riding back to Manali to return the bikes. Spoke to a bike rental (Himalayan Pistons) referred by my friend. He said they would charge 7-8k only to get the bike to Manali.

    2.
15th Sept, Day 0 : Reach Manali from Delhi in bus and receive our bikes on the same evening.
    16th Sept, Day 1 : Manali – Sarchu
    17th Sept, Day 2 : Sarchu – Leh
    18th Sept, Day 3 : Leh – Nubhra
    19th Sept, Day 4 : Nubhra
    20th Sept, Day 5 : Nubhra – Pangong
    21st Sept, Day 6 : Pangong – Leh
22nd Sept, Day 7 : Around Leh (Lamayuru side)
    23rd Sept, Day 8 : Leh – Tso Moriri
24th Sept, Day 9 : Tso Moriri – Leh (Give back the bikes)
25th Sept, Day 10 : Leh – Srinagar (Local bus)
26th Sept, Day 11 : Expecting to reach Srinagar by lunch and planning to take an evening flight to Delhi, and further catching our already booked flight on 26th night 2100 hrs from Delhi to Kochi.

Please help me with the above itinerary.
Also, is it possible to reach Srinagar on 26th afternoon if we leave Leh by 25th morning? If yes, which is the cheapest mode of available transport? or do we take a direct flight out of Leh back to Delhi?

    Thank you again.

    • Hi Ronak,

      1. Well, if that is the case and you are OK with 8K for just a drop of a bike to Manali, you can surely go ahead with it.
      2. You should avoid sleeping at Sarchu, instead do Manali – Jispa and then Jispa to Leh. Then you have to rest one day in Leh and then make two day trip to Nubra. Then make two day trip to Pangong Tso and Tso Moriri lakes. Finally start the trip to Srinagar and reach Kargil covering Lamayuru route. Yes, you can reach Srinagar afternoon if you leave by Srinagar a day before. So, should do from Leh to Sonamarg on Day 1 and then Sonamarg to Srinagar.

      • Ronak Chandak on

        1. Else have hire bikes from Manali to get to Leh, park them in Leh and hire another set of bikes from Leh for local sight seeing. After local sightseeing, give the Leh bikes back and ride back to Manali in our Manali hired bikes. We’ll end up spending almost the same (5-7k) with more of hassle.
        Do we have another option?

        2. Also, is one day rest required when we reach Leh? Cannot continue to Nubhra the next day and take rest there?

Is travelling to Srinagar (in Bus) something which we cannot miss? or can we avoid the hassle and fly back to Delhi from Leh?

        • 1. Well, I agree to an extent. At times there is a clause of 50% rent paid for bikes parked in Leh for Manali ones. Unless you opt out for a bike ride of Manali – Leh highway, it is the only option. But, will you then pay again for Leh bikes to be picked from Manali?
          2. Not really, it will be dangerous as your bodies will no be acclimatized. Keep in mind there is already a loss of life this season of a biker due to lack of acclimatization
          3. Keep that trip for some other day I will say and focus more on Ladakh

  29. Hi Dheeraj
Just wanted your take on the following travel plan. We are doing a road trip to Leh from Delhi.

Day 2: Reach Banihal, stay the night
Day 3: Reach Kargil, Stay the night
Day 4: Reach Nubra Valley, Stay the night
Day 5: Reach Leh, stay the night
Day 6: Go around Leh, Stay the night in Leh

    Regards
    Anuj

    • Hi Anuj,

It is too much packed. You must include a rest day in Leh, that is Day 6 should be Day 4, before going to Nubra. Rest it is almost all being on road only for most of the days.

  30. Greetings
    Hello Dheeraj

Firstly..Thank you for your site. Learn lots of informations here.
We are group of 3 planning to cycle(self support) up to Leh from Manali. Travel on 2nd week of August. Will staying in Manali for 2 days to acclimatise and start our journey gradually up.
    DAY 1 Manali – Marhi
    DAY 2 Marhi – Sissu
    DAY 3 Sissu – Jispa
DAY 4 Jispa –Zing Zing Bar
DAY 5 Zing Zing Bar – Sarchu
    DAY 6 Sarchu – Pang
DAY 7 Pang – Tso Kar Lake
DAY 8 Tso Kar Lake – Lato
    DAY 9 Lato – Leh

    My queries:
*Do we need any sort of permit?
*We are self supported group. at every each destination a day would there be accommodation, to buy supplies- food, kerosene for cooking etc
*We intent to pitch a tent/camp. How cold can it gets at night in the month of august?

Thanks for you time reading my queries 🙂

    • Manali does not help in any acclimatization, save time and stay at Solang for one day, next day at Marhi. There will be no accomodation at Marhi, you need to manage tents else you will have to cross to reach Khoksar to stay in PWD rest house there. Rest except Lato you will get the stay at other places. You should do Tso Kar to Upshi instead Lato (which I never heard)

      • Thank you Dheeraj for you advise. I’ve made changes to my itinerary. Possible to buy disposable Oxygen cylinder/can in Manali? where can i buy it?

  31. ashokshah11 on

    Hi Dheeraj,

    Trusting you doing fine.

We are planning to travel to leh and ladakh sometime in August first week.

Below is the tentative plan which I have jotted down, can you please suggest/guide if this would be fine:

1st day: Chandigarh to Nagar or Manali
    2nd day: nagar,manali sight seeing.
    3rd day: nagar to keylong.
    4th day: keylong to sarchu
5th day: sarchu to tsomoriri lake
6th day: tsomoriri to pangong lake
    7th day: pangong to leh
    8th day: leh sight seeing
9th day: leh to nubra valley
10th day: Nubra Turtuk and back
    11th day: nubra to leh.
12th day: leh Alchi sangam river magnetic hill
13th day: back to Mumbai, early morning flight.

    Thanks.

    Ashok Shah

    • It is not recommended to do Tso Moriri while going from Manali as it may make you very sick and your trip will be spoiled due to non acclimatisation.

      • Ashok Shah on

        Hi,

        Hope you doing good.
I wanted to clarify that, Sarchu, Tso Moriri are at almost same altitude. We should be getting acclimatized by that altitude by then right??
If not Tso Moriri, can we head to pangong lake after Sarchu?
We are a group of 7 people and are planning to travel by Tempo Traveller,is that fine?

        • Ashok, they are not there is a good difference of 300 Mtrs, it looks just 300 Mtrs but even a meagre 100 Mtrs can save a life when hit with AMS. There is no golden rule. It is not recommended at all !!

  32. I want to go to Leh by Manali Leh highway in last week of September of this year. Please tell me about the road condition.
    Thank you.

  33. Please share contact details, we want to journey in july 1sy week for Spiti

    • We do not entertain queries over phone, sorry about that. Please post any queries about your trip on the blog comments or in dow community forum.

  34. Manish Sharma on

    Hello Dheeraj,

Me and my friend are planning for Leh Ladakh trip on bike. Can you pls suggest me whom to contact for the best deal. Thanks a lot!!!

    Regards,

  35. Hello guys…nice blog here. I am travelling to kaza from spiti. Im short on number of days and want to cover chandartaal. I want to rent bike from manali and start journey on same day. Please suggest at what time I have to have to leave manali and reach kaza so that I can find a place to stay. And also cover chandartaal. Please suggest a short itinerary 3 days and also places where I can hire bike in manali.
    Thanks in advance.

    • Abhinav, it is a long ride to Kaza and a very tiring one. In just three days, you can just reach Kaza, and then come back the next day? It takes about 10-11 Hrs from Manali – Kaza. Adding Chandratal will add at least 2-3 hrs in it.

    • Hi thanks.i can spend a day near nchandartaa. But anyways I have to cover either manali-kaza or kaza-manali in one day. Can you tell me any contacts for bike and stay?

  36. Can I found any information regarding to this subject in different languages?

  37. Hi Dheeraj,
I have only 6 days and I want to visit chitkul. First of all we are three me, my wife & my 6.5yrs old son, is it advisable to go there. If yes, please provide me the best itinerary for this trip as I’ve never been there. I am planning to leave from Delhi tomorrow night.

    • Yogesh, you can follow

      Day 1 | Delhi – Narkanda
      Day 2 | Narkanda – Sarahan
      Day 3 | Sarahan – Sangla Valley
      Day 4 | Sangla – Chitkul – Kalpa
      Day 5 | Kalpa – Shimla/Fagu/Chail
      Day 6 | Shimla/Fagu/Chail – Delhi

  38. Hi Dheeraj,

I am planning Leh trip with my friend from 29th Jun to 9th July. We have planned to go from Manali to Leh and then visiting Nubra, Pangong and Tso Moriri we will return to Srinagar via Kargil and Dras.

But on very fundamental question that is worrying me is that, after reading here and in other sources we came to know that the HP tourism buses will start from 1st July and since we are planning to leave Manali on 29th we have to see some other option. And we also got the information stating the the buses from Srinagar to Leh take halt at Kargil and then move to Leh but the buses from Leh to Srinagar go non-stop without a halt.

So please suggest what other options are there for us to avail from Manali to Leh and Leh to Srinagar, with halt at Kargil. Or shall we reverse our itinerary i.e. we go from Srinagr to Leh and in return we talk Leh manali route.

Please suggest what should we do.

    • Keerti, there will be HRTC buses running between Manali – Keylong and Keylong – Leh on daily basis. Also, same is true between Leh to Kargil and Kargil to Leh JKSRTC buses. So, you can avail them. I will suggest that you undertake the journey from Srinagar side as it helps in acclimatization too.

      • Thanks for you input Dheeraj.

        A few more questions:-
        1) Do we make hotel bookings in advance or we will be able to find hotel there when we reach at Leh and other places?
        2) Does it rain in this period i.e. from Last week of June to 10 July time?
        3) We are planning to do night stay at Nubra, Pangong and TsoMoriri. Is it fine or do you suggest to skip any of these night stay(then we will do that trip in one day) and utilize the time for something other which is much better?
        4) If we are taking ordinary buses of state transport, will we be able to find accommodation in Keylong and Kargil then and there?
        5) Can you please suggest a few basic but important medicines that I should carry?

Thanks in advance for your help. Hope to hear from you soon.

        • Hello Keerti,

          1. Not really required if you OK to search 3-5 places upon reaching there.
          2. Sometimes but not that frequent
          3. If you have time, nothing beats staying at all these places
          4. Yeah, both these places have plenty of options. The trouble will be to walking around with luggage.
          5. Please refer: List of things to carry when you go on trip

    • You can reach Mandi, from there go over to Aut and then to Tirthan. From Tirthan take the route over Jalori Pass to Narkanda and then from Narkanda head to Rohru – Chansal Pass. The car will suffer from low GC in certain potholes in pabbar valley

    5. Is this route safe with family?
    6. From Leh to Nurba, In using personal 4 wheeler, there would any problem to local taxi walas?

    • Hello Sachin,

You are doing too much in too little time. You may end up in hospital if you try the above plan due to AMS issues. You should take complete rest on Day 3 to acclimatize a bit. Then you should do two day trip to Nubra Valley and one day trip to Pangong Tso. Then head back to Manali.

      1. Are you sure you want to do it? Rohtang Pass permit will be available from SDM office or Online too after couple of weeks
      2. Yes, you should carry some parts with you
