      • Thank you so much Chetan for the warm words of appreciation. You will need inner line permits to travel the route to Tso Moriri from Pangong Tso via Chusul. So arrange it when in Leh before going to Nubra Valley. Rest seems doable but will surely tell you a bit hectic towards the end.

Thank you so much,. You guys are great!

Could you also possibly tell me if there are any go Pro rentals in and around leh?

        • Rageeth Kollatt on

Thank you for the response dheeraj, go Pro are mini action handy cams that you can attach to your helmet to record your ride. So I’m guessing there aren’t many camera shops in leh? 🙁

    5. Hi Dheeraj,
New to the site but finding it very helpful. We are group of three women planning a trip in September, our first time there. I came onto this thread while reading up on accommodation in Tso Moriri but see you are something of an expert and samaritan! Our itinerary is as follows.

Sept 5: Reaching Manali from Delhi
6: Starting for Leh, night stay at Keylong/Jispa
7: Reach Leh by late evening
      8 & 9: Stay at Leh, acclimatize
      10: Pangong
11: Return to Leh, visit Thiksey, Shey
12: Khardung La, Nubra, back to Leh
13: Lamayuru, Alchi, back to Leh
14: Head for Tso Moriri via Hemis
      15: Stay at Tso Moriri
      16: Return to Leh
      17: Fly back to Delhi

Is this doable or would you suggest changes?

      • Hello Radhika,

I will suggest that you alter your plan as follows as going directly to Pangong Tso that early in the plan will harm you a lot

Sept 5: Reaching Manali from Delhi
6: Starting for Leh, night stay at Keylong/Jispa
7: Reach Leh by late evening
        8: Leh Rest and acclimatization
9: Leh – Khardung La – Nubra Valley
        10: Nubra Valley – Leh
11: Leh – Pangong Tso visiting Hemis
12: Pangong Tso – Leh visiting Thicksey, shey
13: Sham Valley tour covering Alchi, Likir, if wanted cover Lamayuru
        14: Leh – Tso Moriri
        15: Tso Moriri – Leh
        16: Return to Leh

    6. Hi Dheeraj,

Many Thanks for your valuable suggestions! I will plan to halt at Kargil instead of Sonmarg during the return journey.

But again I am stuck with another thought as stated below:

In my itinerary I found another interesting fact that , since i will be starting my journey from Kolkata on 23 July, I will be lucky to have a full moon on 30 July night.
I imagine that the beauty of Pangong Lake on a full moon should be absolutely breath taking. But unfortunately I calculated that as per the itinerary it is 29 th July we will be staying at Pangong 🙁

I have no idea , how to adjust it on 30th night. even i don’t want to miss Tsokar stay ….

Could you please provide any suggestions.

      Many Thanks !

    7. Hi Dheeraj,

      Greetings ! !

I have recently joined this community and have found some great information and facts regarding Leh, Ladakh. Thanks for the great blogs!
I am going to visit Ladakh with my family in the last week of July’2015. Could you kindly have a look at my itinerary (below) and give your kind suggestions/ feedback. Also I came to know from the blogs that it is better to follow Srinagar – Leh highway to enter Leh and use Leh – Manali to return but my bad I have already booked my flight tickets in the reverse order and hence need to follow the same.

      Itinerary:
Day 1: Reach Manali and Rest at Solang / Manali
Day 2: Start early for 1st leg of Manali – Leh. Overnight stay at Jispa.
Day3: Jispa – Leh. Overnight at Leh.
Day 4: Leh – Tsokar via Tangangla Pass . Overnight stay at Tsokar.
Day 5 : Tsokar – Tsomorir . Overnight stay at Tsomoriri.
Day 6: Tsomoriri to Leh via Mahe Bridge. Overnight Stay at Leh.
Day 7: Leh – Pangong. Overnight at Pangong.
Day 8: Pangong – Leh. Overnight at Leh.
Day 9: Leh – Nubra. Overnight at Nubra.
Day 10: Nubra – Uleytekpo. Overnight at Uleytekpo.
Day 11: Uleytekpo – Sonmarg. Overnight at Sonmarg.
Day 12: Sonmarg _ Srinagar. Overnight at Srinagar.
Day 13: Flight from Srinagar to home.

Here, I want to highlight few of my doubts too :

I have come to know that Tsokar is a small, off beat, beautiful lake which hosts variety of wild life near it. Is it true that the animals are best visible at the morning or during sunset? I am asking this to figure out if it’s worth staying overnight at Tsokar and Tsomoriri both? Kindly suggest.

As I am a first time traveler to this part, and the itinerary is created by me with the help of some of the blogs, I would really be immensely grateful to you, if you could kindly suggest me anything you feel like or share your valuable insights with this itinerary.

      Many Thanks !
      Tapoprobha

      • Hi Tapoprobha,

        Regarding your doubts
You should not do Tso Kar / Tso Moriri while going from Manali to Leh because first the taxi from Manali will not be allowed to visit Tso Moriri. Even if you manage Leh taxi or going on your own, then you will not be acclimatized to sleep at such high altitude so early in the trip and may cause some ugly AMS issues for you. Highly not recommended, because any help if required will be very hard to find in case you get hit with AMS.

Regarding itinerary, I will suggest following changed set:

Day 1: Reach Manali and Rest at Solang / Manali
Day 2: Start early for 1st leg of Manali – Leh. Overnight stay at Jispa.
Day3: Jispa – Leh. Overnight at Leh.
Day 4: Leh – Nubra Valley
        Day 5 : Nubra Valley – Leh
Day 6: Leh – Pangong Tso
Day 7: Pangong Tso – Leh
Day 8: Leh – Tso Moriri
Day 9: Tso Moriri – Tso Kar
Day 10: Tso Kar – Uleytekpo. Overnight at Uleytekpo.
Day 11: Uleytekpo – Sonmarg. Overnight at Sonmarg.
Day 12: Sonmarg _ Srinagar. Overnight at Srinagar.
Day 13: Flight from Srinagar to home.

        Regards
        Dheeraj

        • Hi Dheeraj,

Thank you so much for this great itinerary suggestion !
I am going to follow this itinerary.

It would be great if you could provide answer to 2 more questions:

          2. Will it be better to night halt at Kargil / Sonmarg during return. If we stay at Kargil then is there any chance of road blockage in July?

          Many Thanks !
          Regards
          Tapoprobha

          • Hi Tsil,

            1. Yes, if you have time then it is really nice place to stay that is Tso Kar.
            2. Yes, always recommended to enjoy the journey at ease and stay at Kargil. Road block can happen beyond Sonamarg too which unfortunately no one can predict and control 🙂

            Regards
            Dheeraj

    8. Hi Dheeraj,

      Thanks in advance.

      • Hi Bharath,

You should not do Tso Moriri while going from Manali to Leh because first the taxi from Manali will not be allowed to visit Tso Moriri. Even if you manage Leh taxi or going on your own, then you will not be acclimatized to sleep at such high altitude so early in the trip and may cause some ugly AMS issues for you. Highly not recommended, because any help if required will be very hard to find in case you get hit with AMS.

There is no direct bus from Keylong to Tso Moriri. So, you will need to shift the plan as below:

9th Morning: Reach manali and stay overnight at Solang Valley / Manali
        10th: Solang Valley / manali – Keylong
        11th: Keylong – Leh
        12th: Leh rest and acclimatization
13th: Day trip to Khardung La
14th: Day trip to Pangong Tso
        15th: Fly back from Leh.

You can check the nice, preferred list of accommodation options in entire Leh – Ladakh (Leh, Nubra Valley, Pangong Tso, Tso Moriri) including moderate (cheap budget hotels as well) in the series of articles starting on the link here

For the leh – ladakh taxi union rate list 2015 – 16 including the contacts of some reliable taxi drivers within Leh – Ladakh, check the link here. You can get about 10-12% of discount by directly getting in touch with drivers and of course, talking in person rather on phone always help in bargaining more.

    9. Hi, me and my wife were in Ladakh last year. Spent two days in nubra and 3 days at pangong and were completely bowled over by these breathtaking places . But somehow could not go to tso moriri due to time constraint . So this year we ‘be planned a trip only to go to tso moriri . We are flying into leh on 29 th July ( morning ) will spend a day resting for acclimatization . On30 th evening we plan to start for tso moriri ( on a hired cab ) we plan to break the journey and spend the night somewhere half way along the way and restart again next morning and reach the lake before afternoon. We plan to start back for leh on 3rd, spend 4th in leh as we have a flight to catch on 5 th morning . Can u please comment on the itenarary and suggest a place to stay near the lake and if we can hike around or nearby the lake as we ‘ ll be there for 3 days. Can we get a guide for the same . Thanks a lot

      • Hi Bharat,

YEs, pretty much you can do that BUT for acclimatization you will need more time. I will suggest something like below:

        Day 1 | Leh Rest + Acclimatize
        Day 2 | Leh Rest + Acclimatize
        Day 3 | Leh – Chumathang
        Day 4 | Chumathang – Tso Moriri
        Day 5 | Tso Moriri
        Day 6 | Tso Moriri – Hanle
        Day 7 | Hanle – Leh

        Regards
        Dheeraj

        • Thanks a lot dhiraj, for chalking out the itenarary for us. Taking your advice we would be spending another day in leh to acclimatize .
can we do rafting on the 2 nd day while we are acclimatising or does it mean no exertion at all.
Also would we better off doing hanle instead of doing the tso kar circuit. I believe we can’t do both considering we don’t want to rush through tso moriri . Want to spend some time there exploring the environs
Can’t decide. Please enlighten. Will really be grateful, thanks again
          Bharat

          • Bharat, rafting shall be kept at last few days as it will exert your body and will aggravate the chances of AMS. So, avoid that and do it may be some evening you have time, if possible. Hanle will need another day while you can visit Tso Kar while the return.

    10. Hey dhiraj!
Applaud you for the fantastic blog….can you help me with the bookings of tsomoriri tents…have already filled in the online form..
