i am missing Wari La and Tangtse- chusul road …what else am missing..? how can i make it in my itinerary ?
Is Mahe- chusul direct route and hanle- koyul- demchok route can be accessible ?
My duster’s mileage on highway is 15kmpL, in city traffic is roughly 11kmpl and expecting 10kmpL in ladakh and spiti.
So i will be carrying (50ltr=500km in vehicle tank) and extra Diesel (about 80 ltr=900km) in jerry cans for extra miles from hunder fuel station which has been reported functional .is it sufficient fuel in case i want to return via sarchu- keylong from hanle–tso moriri– tso kar ? any suggestions in this regard ?
What other beautiful places in ladakh or spiti for which i should try ? Do army allows travelling to siachin base camp and DBO ( daulat beg oldie) in private vehicles ? I have a friend in itbp and a contact in army posted in Leh. Please suggest if i should ask them for any favours regarding access in restricted areas in Ladakh.
is it possible to sleep in my car during any emergency/ break down of vehicle in Ladakh region ? What will be avg minimum temp in Pangong tso/ Tso moriri region during night in july second week ?
I have not booked any accomodation after Leh except hanle (talked to Mr sonam at hanle and he has assured me to provide accomodation in spite of house full).
what if i don’t get a bed in spangmik or Tso moriri or Tso kar). Can i pitch my tent or sleep in my car(foldable rear seats creates 6x5feet flat space).
I am not going to zanskar this time and will come next time. however i may try kargil-sankoo-umba La-drass. Any recent update on this route ?
I have not yet finalised my return journey route, however i must return delhi on 17 july forenoon.i am not satisfied with time utilization in my itinerary as i have two days left in the end.
Once again i need your advice for this amazing trip.
I live in delhi and i am very much interested to be a part of DOW community.I am willing to participate in future events of this amazing community and i really appriciate Mr Dheeraj DOW community for doing this great job.
1. You can pitch your own tents anywhere in Spiti, just ask for permissions from the locals nearby in case there are any. Mud village is better to stay.
2. Marsimik La – Spangimk – Hanle can be done in a day.
3. 12th July buffer day can be used as rest in Kaza to visit Langza, Hikkim, Komic.
4. Skip Wari La for some other day and Demchok AFAIK is still permits are not given
5. You should expect 70% only in high Himalayas as average, do the maths accordingly. You have to rely on black fuel.
6. Army does not allow to go to Siachen and DBO unless you have some high contacts.
7. In case of emergency, that shall be the last resort to sleep in car.
8. You are carrying tents, so dont be afraid of on spot bookings.
9. I do not think still Umbala is motorable or not.
Thank you for the warm words !! Please join us on next mini meet in Delhi
Having doubt regarding–
hunder- turtuk-hunder-panamik-hunder (ni halt).
is it doable in one day ?
Thank you very much for information provided on above itinerary.
I will suggest to skip Panamik – Sumur. Nothing much to see there.
Thanks for suggestion. now i am thinking not to go panamik and spending much time enjoying Hunder and Turtuk village.
05 july 》Leh-khardungla-hunder (night stay)
06 july 》 hunder-turtuk(day visit) overnight at. hunder
Yes Rajesh, this is a better plan.
Thanks Dheeraj ji for your guidance.finally reached delhi after completion of great himalayan trip, driven my car 5000km in 21 days as solo traveller.A life time memory.
That is awesome Rajesh ji !! Can you share the details, road conditions, or hotel reviews where you stayed, anything you can think will be useful for others planning their trips??
chandratal-batal-Gramphu road was in bad condition due to continuous rain.early start is strongly recommended as water level in streams increases by the end of day.some patches on batal-chattru-gramphu road can be tricky for new drivers.it is advised to follow other local vehicles and dont go solo if coming first time.4×4 is recommended.
Khalsar-agham-shyok road was re-opened around 3july after a landslide.but it was difficult for 2×2 vehicles to cross a mud and slush patch at two places after Agham.
Man-merak-chusul route is unmettalled upto tsaka village and some water streams may be difficult to cross after noon.
Hanle to chumur is all mud and slush not advisable.
