S asked 6 months ago

Hi Dheeraj,
Thank you so much for maintaining this blog. It is SO helpful. 🙂

Do you think Manali to Kaza will be possible on 29th May? and return on 2nd. How will the road conditions be? Will Kunzum pass be open? We also want to cover Chandertal and Pin Parvati. Thank you.

I think so too. It is not expected that Manali to Kaza will open by end of May this year.

Vinay, if you have 4-5 days in hand, then it is better that you plan a trip to either Barot or Tirthan valley. You will be able to read about them at: Delhi to Tirthan Valley, Himachal Pradesh – Travel Guide and Delhi to Barot Village, Himachal – Travel Guide

Hi Dheeraj! I have planned a road trip from June 10th starting from Manali. Plan is to go via Kaza – Kalpa – Narkand – Shimla – to Delhi. Do you think Kaza and Kunzum La will open by June 12th? [June 12th I will be in Chandrataal already]

DHEERAJ SHARMA answered 5 months ago

Maddy, since you are doing the circuit, why not give more time to travel from Shimla to Kalpa to Kaza. May be by the time you reach Kaza, the road from Manali to Kaza gets open. The chances of opening it later will be more and more.

Thanks for the response Dheeraj! Now I’m considering starting from Shimla on June 10th and go towards Kalpa and Kaza. But I need to be back in Delhi on June 18 at any cost. Any chance I may be able to cross over to chandratal? 🙂

There are very high chances now that Manali – Leh is open, BRO will spend time and some energy more in speeding up clearing the Manali – Kaza road.

Yes Manali – Kaza is already open as posted earlier on the forum. He just says Kunzum Pass is open which is open for like last 10 days now. However, the main issue is the road between Gramphu to Batal which is before Kunzum Pass from Manali side. It takes time to clear. that road is still blocked so you cannot travel from Manali to Kaza still.

Dheeraj, if we start from Rampur side, how far can we go next weekend onwards? Can we cross Kalpa, Malling Nala, Kaza and reach Chandrataal?

You can cross Kunzum Pass and Batal and beyond too till the point road is not open to Sarchu or may be it opens by then. Regarding Chandratal, if you are ready to trek you might reach it but then if there are no camps, it will be tough to return.

Day Three – 3rd July night stay in keylong.
Day four – 4th July night stay in keylong.

I will suggest you to visit and spend time in Kaza in case you have one more day, then may be you can follow: How to make a trip to Spiti Valley in 6 days?

But with just 5 days and being last day that hectic, I will suggest to keep for Keylong and around.

Hi Dheeraj
Thanks, for sparing the time.
Though the plan is completely cancelled, as the news related to cloudburst scared to my ‘WIFI’. So now, I hope in October I should go with 9/10 days in hand. Not sure how monsoon will treat us in October, in begining or in last of the October, What time I should chose. What do you suggest and which place , Leh / Kaza?  Hopefully the route should be in good shape.
Thanks again for you time sparing for me.
Regards
Abdul Mannan

DHEERAJ SHARMA answered 4 months ago

It is better to make a trip in September second half than October when it gets too cold and chances of snowfall increases. Best will be to visit Kaza – Spiti in just 8-10 days in hand. Start from Shimla side and come from Manali side. You can check a very balanced and most common itinerary for Spiti Valley followed by many travellers including me at the link here for 10-11 days: Most Common Itinerary for Spiti Valley.
