Hi Rajesh,

If you will do in the opposite direction, that is to start from Srinagar and end in Shimla via Ladakh and Spiti then, in that case, it will be much better because the road from Kaza to Manali – Keylong will be open by the time you reach there on that route. However, in case you plan to travel this route from Shimla side in first week of June, the road from Manali – Kaza/Keylong will not be open.

No Rajesh, that road connecting Padum to Darcha is under construction and the road only goes up to Shinku La from Darcha side.

You can stay at Tabo, Nako, Kalpa, Sangla/Chitkul, Sarahan, Narkanda on the way to Shimla from Kaza.

Well, the road from Kaza to Keylong over Kunzum Pass is expected to open by mid of June. So, you might find the road closed when you travel from Kaza side. Postpone the trip by about a week.

Dear sir

Sorry to bother you again as you have already answered but  i have made some changes and need your valuable guidance to finalise my delhi- Ladakh trip.

Now i am starting from 23 june from delhi using duster 4×4(probably solo drive).

Now i have 25 days for this adventurous journey.

My first choice is to explore Ladakh and second is spiti valley and if conditions allow me, i am also in love with Zanskar, Sangla, kinnaur and pangi valley respectively.

I am reading DOW threads on himalaya journey but not able to finalize an itinerary by mixing ladakh zanskar spiti sangla.i wish to go all around in himalaya but need your guidance to make a life time memorable trip.i will carry all necessary kit & equipments and i have no problem to camp in my tent and even in my car. I am confident in hill driving and been to high altitude many times.
I am also interested to explore less travelled roads.
Marsimik La, umba La, shanku La and shingo La also in my wish list. however i am anytime ready to turn back if nature dont allow me.

Killar, Kullu or through Kaza ?

i dont know which way to Leh  from delhi and back and dont want to repeat the route unless necessary. I do not want to use jammu srinagar highway as i have driven there many times.

This will be first time to ladakh and spiti.

You are requested to suggest an itinarary for a successful trip.

Regards
Rajesh Meena

Thank you very much for your valuable guidance.
also need your help for following queries.

Is Phobrang to marsimik La is accessible by suv ?

Instead of coming back to Leh on day 13, can i go to Hanley from Spangmik via merak and chushul ( with extra fuel) ? Is punguk- chumur- Tso moriri accessible from hanley ? If yes how should i plan Tso moriri and Tso kar from Hanley on next day ?
Any other restricted adventurous route for which i should try to get permit (may get favour of army) ?

How difficult is sankoo to dras via umba La ?
Any possibility of keylong – padum road in july first week  as someone told me it is likely to connect in june end ?
Is there any restrictions for night hill driving in spiti or Ladakh ?
Baltal base camp-Amarnath cave- Baltal base camp can it be done in one day ?
I am really thankfull to you for your suppprt and guidance.

Yes, Marsimik La is accessible by SUV but will suggest being careful of attempting it. You can travel to Hanle from Spangmik with extra fuel. Then go over to Tso Moriri from Hanle. I will say it will be enough adventure, so plan some other time other places.

I have not heard Umbala being open or recently being done by anyone. Local taxis too don’t ply on it. No way Keylong Padum road is going to open in next couple of years. Looking at the unrest in the valley, it is better to avoid traveling through Kashmir.

Rajesh meena answered 5 months ago

Dear Sir
I am also thinking to avoid kashmir and  zanskar( will do next time). I think i should focus on Ladakh and Spiti. I will go in slow pace, enjoying all the vistas on route and planning to return as Leh- sarchu-keylong- killar- chamba-delhi.
Do you recommend the killar-sach pass route ?
your guidance will surely help me making a successful adventurous trip.

You can try, no permits are issued for Shipki La.
Add one day for night stay at Chandratal, then do Chandratal to Jispa and Jispa to Leh.

Make a day trip from Pangong Tso to Marsimik La.

Leh – Sarchu
Sarchu – Keylong
Keylong – Killar
Killar – Sach Pass – Bairagarh/Chamba

The second half of July will be a mix of rains/monsoon. Lower hills are where the trouble will be, Ladakh is rain shadow region otherwise.
You can check a very balanced and most common itinerary for Leh – Ladakh followed by many travellers including me at the link here for 13-14 days: Most Common Itinerary for Leh – Ladakh.
