I always ensure I read your posts here. I am from Bangalore. I wanted to cover Leh-Ladakh but I think it will not be possible.
My wife wants to see and witness SNOW.
My plan is to transport my vehicle to Delhi and start my journey from Delhi. We want to drive in our own car only (Strictly)
I wanted one advice, which parts can we cover considering no of days and where can we see snowfall. I am not hard and fast that I want to visit Leh-Ladakh, nothing like that. But yea, I want to include Amritsar and Srinagar in my trip. So, please let me know the route and places we can cover.
Awaiting +ve reply…
No reply….Can I know what is the TAT for getting answers.
Rohit, unfortunately, this website is not my business and does not earn me the bread and butter, so I tend to reply whenever it is possible for me to reply. The website is maintained out of pure hobby and passion, part-time. I try my best to reply within 24 hrs, it depends upon when you are asking and when I am replying. More than 90% of the questions get the reply in that time period 🙂 🙂 … Three hours is too much for me
Anyways, back to your questions:
I am assuming you plan to make this trip in the month of May-June, the snow will only be possible on Manali – Leh Highway around Baralcha La pass and high passes of Ladakh like Khardung La and Changla. Rest there wont be any snow, but remains of dirty snow/slush. This year snow has anyways been quite less.
It will take 4 days to reach Leh from Srinagar side starting from Delhi with stop overs at Jammu, Srinagar, Kargil and 3 days to come back from Leh from Manali side to Delhi with stopovers at Sarchu, Manali. This makes it 7 days. 1 Day is required in Leh for acclimatization. You have about 10 days. 1 Day can be used as Day trip to Pangong Tso and other day can be used as day trip to Nubra Valley or just Khardung La pass.
Opt to go via Manali – Leh Highway and I will suggest that you refer the thread for more details on the route and night halts though it is of 9 days: Manali – Leh – Ladakh – Manali | Itinerary for 9 Days.
Thanks for your reply and valuable time. How about if I want to include Amritsar, Srinagar and just touch base possible areas to Leh-Ladakh, is it doable? I wish to do it in Dec-Jan. I know roads will be closed of Leh-Ladakh and so Amritsar, Srinagar and other possible places where we can see SNOW.
The time frame remains the same (i.e. 10 days)
Aah, well Jan opens up a lot of other places then in that case. You can of course travel to Kashmir and make just Kashmir tour along with Amritsar. You can club Amritsar and Manali or Kinnaur Valley in 10 days. Rohtang Pass will have snow in Jan and so does parts of Kinnaur Valley in late Jan. If you want to do both Amritsar and Srinagar I Will suggest making a 10 day trip to Kashmir and Amritsar from Delhi in mid to late Jan for surety of snow.
PS: This might be my last reply of the day as I am US timezone and feeling sleepy 🙂 … I will reply to your further questions first thing in my morning. You have a good day.
Thanks Dheeraj once again. Ofcourse, have a good sleep. GN!!
Once you see and get time, can you please give me tentative routing for the places to be covered from Delhi.
Request you to provide me route for the above places so I can make up my iternary day wise and share it with you across.
I will suggest you following:
Day 1 – Delhi – Amritsar
Day 2 – Amritsar
Day 3 – Amritsar – Patnitop
Day 4 – Patnitop – Srinagar
Day 5 – Srinagar – Gulmarg/Pahalgam
Day 6 – Gulmarg/Pahalgam
Day 7 – Gulmarg/Pahalgam – Sonamarg
Day 8 – Sonamarg – Srinagar
Day 9 – Srinagar – Jammu/Pathankot
Day 10 – Jammu / Pathankot – Delhi
Day 1: Delhi to Manali
Day 2: Rest in Manali and do local sightseeing in Manali
Day 3: Manali – Snow Point towards Rohtang Pass (Marhi / Gulaba)
Day 4: Manali – Dharamshala – Mcleod Ganj
Day 5: Mcleod Ganj and around
Day 6: Mcleod Ganj – Dalhousie – Khajjiar
Day 7: Khajjiar – Chamba – Gete (17 Km) – Jot (12 KM) – Gete (12 KM) – Khajjiar (7 KM)
Day 8: Khajjiar – Dalhousie – Amritsar
Day 9: Amritsar
Day 10: Amritsar – Delhi
So, in both ways option 1 and option 2 you presented one place gets missed. In option 1, Manali gets missed and in option 2 Srinagar gets missed. By any chance either in two options is it possible to add it and thereby removing other places you mentioned.
I am ok with it.
Hey Rohit, I will not suggest that you mix all three places as you wont be able to enjoy much from any of them in that case and will mostly be on roads with cold.
I agree Dheeraj,
In that case I think I can go with option 1 which covers Amritsar, Srinagar and other places you mentioned..
I hope the roads will not be closed in these areas in Dec/Jan.
Roads are open in general, make it in Jan to get the snow for sure. However, please note that roads can close in Kashmir in case of heavy snowfall for a day or two.
Ok sure. While returning I plan to drive to Bangalore via Indore.
So, from Jammu as you have mentioned the last city to Indore can you give me route by not including delhi. I am trying to byepas Delhi.
I hope in Jammu there won’t be any issues.
From Jaipur, you can take NH48 to Panipat via Rohtak and further towards Ludhiana – Jammu. The same route can be followed while coming back. IT avoids going through Delhi.
