Badly need your advice as I have planned an adventure honeymoon in August to spiti valley and Ladakh. I’m reaching Chandigarh on 2nd August 18. I’m getting a bit confused. I have made booking in zostel Spiti at Kaza on 4 and 5 August. Please help me with planning correct itinerary.
Day 1 reach Chandigarh at 3pm to Shimla/Narkanda. Overnight
Day 2 Narkanda to kalpa
Day 3 kalpa to Kaza(as I have bookings in zostel)
Day 4 Kaza in and around
Day 5 Kaza to keylong and in between places.
Day 6 keylong to Leh
Day 7 local at Leh
Day 8 nubra valley and around
Day 9 Ladakh
Day 10 Ladakh
Day 11 Leh to Delhi by flight
This is just a vague idea. Please help me shape my trip. I wish to do both places together if advisable. Or else suggestions are welcome.
Surabhi, I am not sure what will it cost to cancel the bookings but your plan despite honeymoon is very hectic and mostly like being on the road especially for something special as honeymoon. It is doable but hectic, so keep in mind. Towards the last days of the trip, I will suggest:
Day 8 nubra valley and around
Day 9 Nubra Valley to Pangong Tso
Day 10 Pangong Tso to Leh
I agree can u please suggest a modification of this plan to any one of the destination?? It’s hard for me. We haven’t been to either locations. Kindly suggest a simpler plan from 2nd to 12th August
And yes cancellation won’t cost me much . I’m reaching Chandigarh at 3 pm on 2 aug and wish to reach Delhi by 12th
That will be much wonderful and hence I will suggest following:
2nd Aug, 3rd Aug: Start for Manali and reach Manali either in night and rest on 3rd at Manali for the day.
4th Aug: Manali to Jispa
5th Aug: Jispa to Leh
6th Aug: Leh local sightseeing and permits
7th Aug: Leh to Nubra Valley, stay at Hunder or Turtuk
8th Aug: If staying at Turtuk come to stay at Hunder or else make day trip to Turtuk and relax in Nubra
9th Aug: Nubra Valley to Leh
10th Aug: Leh – Pangong Tso
11th Aug: Pangong Tso to Leh
Now, if you loose a day due to rains then make two day trip to Nubra Valley and skip Turtuk. For more details on these days and what to do, you can refer detailed version of the itinerary as Most Common Itinerary for Leh – Ladakh
I loved everything on devil on wheels… Thanks soooo much. U are amazing!! I will be posting more on my upcoming trips and will be visiting Spiti seperately as u have suggested…
Wonderful, Surabhi, and in case you want to log your trip and share your wonderful travel experience we do have an option to share your story with the DoW audience as a guest author 🙂
Just let me know in case you are interested and also feel free to post any further questions.
TOTALLY INTERESTED!! THANKS MUCH
One last question is how safe is travelling from leh to Srinagar for defence personnels?? I was trying to avoid the route as I have heard it’s not very safe for army airforce employees???
I wanna reach Hyderabad on 12th aug and don’t wish to cut down my vacation too. Catching a flight directly from leh is costing me 10k… Any suggestions?? Should I catch a flight from Srinagar??
If you do not wish to extend the trip, then I will suggest that you take the flight directly from Leh. I am not sure about any particular issues to defence personnels only, for me risk should be same as a general civilian unless I am missing something in the details, so not sure 🙁 …
For our stay at hinder, turtuk ,nubra or pangong do we need to make the bookings beforehand as per our travelling dates?? Or on spot we can get affordable accommodations.. like comfortable tents or rooms???
Do I need to book that also from now?? I have secured an accomodation at Leh.
Well, it depends, if you are looking for a particular stay and are OK with some decent/clean stays on the spot of course with some risk of getting a homestay, you will find one or the other thing for sure. Depends upon your flexibility to stay at modest places. If you really always want a comfortable stay and not ready to look at few places to search on the spot, I will suggest to book them in advance else go with on spot bookings.
