Public Transport in Leh Started – Bus Timetable

0

In a welcoming step from Leh administration, public transport in Leh (as daily public transport buses) has been launched within Leh town. Leh administration has launched buses to operate between Leh and various nearby villages around Leh. What makes this move really special is that now Leh town will be connected with Leh airport by daily buses, which means that you no longer have to rely on just taxi service for a pickup and drop. This will save budget travelers some close to Rs 1000 bucks 🙂 … In other cases, tourists, in general, used to rent scooty or bikes to travel within Leh or around Leh town. Some tourists also opt for private taxis for the commute.

If you have been to Leh – Ladakh, you might know that majority of transport within Leh – Ladakh is dependent upon tourists taxis which are costly and for some travelers, it makes it difficult to have a trip to Leh – Ladakh on budget. This move will help save them cost especially from the airport, moving around Leh, a visit to Phyang or Choglamsar or Spituk monasteries. Some of the routes also cover Shey monastery, Thicksey monastery, Hemis monastery and Stakna monastery, which are quite popular among the tourist circuits. Leh is already connected to some extent with other tourist places in Ladakh like Nubra Valley, Pangong Tso and Tso Moriri by public transport. However, the frequency of public transport or buses connecting these places within Ladakh isn’t that great as you can see in the bus timetable for Leh – Ladakh. There is also a daily bus between Leh to Manali, Leh to Keylong and Leh to Delhi that runs in the season time over Manali – Leh Highway. Similarly on Srinagar – Leh Highway as well Leh is connected with daily buses between Leh to Kargil and Leh to Srinagar.

At times while going from Srinagar to Leh, you might need to work out few things if there have been some tensions in taxi unions of Kargil and Leh. In order to settle it out, what they do is that they make a transit point just before Fotu La while going to Leh from Kargil. All Leh taxis stop there and Kargil taxis too. They exchange passengers and move back in respective directions. Leh taxis take passengers to Leh coming from Srinagar/Kargil and Kargil guys take passengers to Srinagar/Kargil coming from Leh. But, that happens only when there is an issue.

Conclusion
