For the past few days, the inclement weather conditions disrupted life in many parts of Himalayas including Himachal Pradesh and Jammu & Kashmir. Higher regions of Himachal Pradesh including Manali region, Solang Valley, Rohtang Pass, Pangi Valley, Spiti Valley, Kinnaur Valley, Chamba, Sach Pass etc received heavy amount of snowfall in the month of April 2011. Jammu and Srinagar was not far behind in getting lashed rains in the lower parts and higher hills received quite amount of snow.
While the tourists, taxi operators and hoteliers are happy with the heavy tourist influx to see the white carpet in all parts of Himalayas, the apple orcharders are also partying in the hopes of great apple crop. However, this white blanket of snow does disrupts life in these regions too. The Jammu – Srinagar Highway had to be closed as well few days back owing to slippery conditions and snow on the roads.
The Manali – Leh Highway, also suffered from the disruption of snow clearance operations carried out by BRO. So far BRO has reached Beas Nalla, 32 KMs further away from Manali towards Rohtang Pass but further progress was disrupted. The distance between Manali and Rohtang Pass is about 51 KMs, so if weather improves in next couple of days we can expect the snow clearance operations to resume soon 🙂
