Leh – Ladakh Taxi Rates 2015 – 16

598

Just like all the previous years and before the start of the Leh – Ladakh season 2015 – 16, I have been able to manage to get hold of the latest Leh – Ladakh Taxi Rates 2015 – 16 of leh taxi union for you all 🙂 🙂 … As expected, again this year the prices are hiked and there is a circular too for the ranges in which the prices have been hiked. The prices has been hiked in a whooping range of 12.13% – 19.00% this year which is a bit disappointing considering already high charges of taxis in Ladakh and this will surely leave a big dent on your pocket for sure this year 😥 😥 … I expected around 8-10% but some things are not under your control. You might know that, few of year ago the taxi union has separated the rates on the basis of model and make of the taxis. There are XUVs too available as taxi now, which falls in the category of Innova and Xylo… The taxi grouping along with price hikes for this year are as follow with an exception of Xylo moving to Category B:-

  • XUV, Innova and Aria (highest price tag) – 19% Hike in Charges
  • Xylo, Scorpio, Tavera, Sumo Grande, Qualis, Safari, etc.. (middle price tag) – 14% Hike in Charges
  • Eeco, Omni Van, Winger, Old Sumo, Bolero, etc.. (lowest price tag) – 12.13% Hike in Charges

Below you can find the entire rate list of leh taxi union rates for 2015 – 16 for sightseeing purposes within Ladakh, towards Manali and towards Srinagar for this current year. I have highlighted the important or most frequently refereed rates in the rate list below just to ease out that task for you 🙂:

  1. hi dheeraj, 12 of us want to travel Ladakh this may,we will be starting our journey from delhi by tempo traveller, can you tell me how much it should cost us for hiring tempo for 12 days,

if you have any contact no: please share..

    Thanks

    • Outside registered taxis or tempos are not allowed for sightseeing in Ladakh, I hope you ar aware about it. Once, you will reach Ladakh you will have to hire another tempo traveller and pay twice. It will be much better that you guys reach Srinagar on your own by flight and start the trip from there.

I visited ladakh during 05/09/2016 to 11/09/2016 with my family exclusively for nubra valley via pangong lake including local sight seeing at ladakh region. I recommend to be cautious with lack of oxygen if u r in pangong lake having breathing problem. Local sight seeing @ Leh vrious monastries, magnetic hills , gurudwara, leh palace should all comprised of not more than rs. 48000 expenditure.
ladakg beeing sangan of valley and vaious different mountains , khardungla pass is the highest motorable road in the world.
Amazing to see leh , can be visited once.
    regards

    Hi Dheeraj,
We, 6 friends planned to go to leh on 29th sept and will b back on 4th Oct early morning. Just wanted to clarify few things from you:

    1. We want to cover pangong lake, tso moriri and nubra valley. Can it be done? Most of the tour packages said its not possible or it will be hectic. One of them is giving us the option
29th sept – stay in leh
    30th – leh to pangong
1st oct – pangong to tso moriri via chusul
2nd – tso moriri to leh
3rd -leh to nubra valley to leh back

Total cost including innova n hotel is 75k for 6 ppl. Is the itinerary and cost fine?

    2. Should we book taxi and hotels separately? Will it be helpful in cost cutting?
    3. Above itinerary is okay or will you suggest some changes ??

  4. Hello Dheeraj,

I need your help to plan my trip from Leh to New Delhi by shared taxi and bus in September 2016.

    1. Can I know how long would it take from Leh to Manali by shared taxi ?

    2. I need to catch a flight on Sep 26th 2016 at 2310 in New Delhi, so I have to arrive New Delhi by Sep 25th morning from Manali. Please suggest me the right TIME and DATE for me to depart from LEH by shared taxi so that I arrive Manali and then New Delhi on time. (Even arrive on Sep 26th at Delhi in the morning is possible but risky – better spared for emergency).

    Thanks in advance Sir.

  5. Hello:

I would like to get a contact number for shared taxi from Sringar to Leh.
Somebody mentioned that it should cost around INR3000,
Two of us are travelling on 19Aug, we will be glad to share with any private travellers as well.

Can anybody please help with this information?

    Thanks!

  6. Namaskar Dheeraj ji

Along with my wife, I plan to visit Manali in the second week of September 2016, for a few days, and I wish to include a trip until Gramphoo (after Rohtang La) and come back the same day to Manali. Could you please help me with your answer to a few of my queries as below:

    1) Is September second week, say 11th Sep, a suitable time to visit Rohtang / Gramphoo?
    2) Will there be any security issue if we ride a Manali registered bike until Gramphoo?
    3) What time should we start from Manali to reach Rohtang and get the security clearance?
    4) How much time does it take to ride until Gramphoo and come back (only riding hours)? This will help us planning one day trip to Gramphoo.

    Many thanks
    Sree

    • Hi Sree,

      1) Yes, but there will be no snow. Also, you need permit for Rohtang Pass
      2) No, there wont be any issue just you need permit to reach Rohtang Pass and come back. You can apply it online as well.
      3) It is 51 KM from Manali and takes about couple of hrs to reach if you have the permit ready with you.
      4) Make another 2-3 Hrs to reach Gramphu and come back to Rohtang Pass

      • Chayan Gupta on

Hello dheeraj you had helped me a lot when I visited ladakh in 2014 thanks again. This time we are a group of 10.we want to travel by tempo traveller firstly to reduce costs and more so to travel together. I don’t have the rates for tempo traveller. Can you please help me out and also give numbers of drivers on the srinagar leh route and the ladakh region.

        • Chayan, you can refer the list of taxi drivers link above in the article to get connected with Tempo Traveler drivers. Well, tempo costs are about 35% more than what is mentioned for the cost of hiring an innova.

  7. Aleem Aslam on

    Hi Dheeraj,

I am traveling with my wife to Leh. After reaching Leh by flight, planning to stay in Leh fore the first two days for Acclimatization and Local sightseeing. Then planning to visit Nubra Valley (Overnight stay) and then Pangong Lake (Overnight stay). And there after return back to Leh again.

I am interested to take Bike on Rent from Leh.

    Please suggest/advise if
    (1) we can rent bike in LEH for the Nubra/Pangong lake return trip or should i use the Taxi.
    (2) And how much will be the cost if we rent bike for the trip…
    (3) I understand from your blogs, Taxi would cost around 10000 for Nubra and another 10000 for Pangong lake. So, the total trip by private taxi will be around 20000 for the Nubra & Pangong Return trip. Is that right.?
    (4) Btw, we would like to do rafting too. Which place will be good for Amateurs like us to take up Rafting.?

Thanks for your help in advance. 🙂

    • Hi Aleem,

      1. Try Nubra Valley first and then either continue with Pangong Tso is you feel good with bike ride else hire taxi for Pangong Tso
      2. Bikes are costed around 900-1500 depending on the model and make
      3. Yes, taxi would be around that cost only.
      4. Nimmu, Phey, Chiling are the places for Rafting.

      • Aleem Aslam on

        Thanks for the info.

Just one doubt, So are there options to hire bike in Leh and leave in Nubra Valley..?? So there are taxis in Nubra valley for trip to Pangong Tso and return to Leh..?

Your blog was of great help to plan this trip. Thank you so much.

        • Aleem, yes. Yes, you can rent bikes in Leh and Fort Road in Leh is full of such shops that rent bikes. Depending upon the condition, model, make and tourist rush you can get bikes starting from Rs 900 to Rs 1300. Rather than booking over phone, it is much better to visit the Fort road, check 4-5 shops over there and get a good deal after checking the bike conditions. I will suggest you read this for sure to understand few tips on hiring bikes from Manali or Leh: How to Hire or Rent a Bike or Motorcycle in Manali

For renting bikes in Leh – Ladakh along with current Bike Union Prices, you can check the DoW Community thread: Leh – Ladakh Bike Rental Rates 2016 – 17 & Reliable Shops

You can refer article above to get taxi for Pangong Tso and get connected with drivers directly.

  8. Hi Dheeraj,

Thank you so much for this advice, it is definitely invaluable.

Myself and my partner are heading to Leh in September this year. I saw in my research of Leh and travelling here that you also need to obtain permits to go to places like Pangong tso and the Nubra valley.

Is this still the case if we go with one of the taxi drivers you have suggested? We are from Australia and New Zealand so we are not Indian nationals.

    Thank you!

    Nada

    2. Which taxi can I opt for the Leh trip (Day 4- Day 8)? How much will it cost?
    3. Is it economical to take private taxi to travel from Leh -Srinagar or better rely on the Public transport system?

  10. Hello Dheeraj,

    4. Is there anything you would like to add on or reduce form the current plan mentioned above?

    • INstead of doing Day 11, you should do Srinagar to Leh in two days to better acclimatize yourself and enjoy the highway.

As per the taxi union rates of year 2016-17 (http://devilonwheels.com/leh-ladakh-taxi-rates-2016-17/) following is the break up

      Srinagar – Leh in 2 days = 18400
      Leh Local sightseeing = 2500-3000
      Leh – Nubra Valley 2 Day = 10566
      Leh – Pangong Tso 2 Day = 10301
      Leh – Tso Moriri – Tso Kar – Sarchu – Manali 2-3 days = 29056
      Leh – Manali 2 Days = 21588
      Leh – Pangong Tso 1 Day = 8653
      Leh – Nubra Valley 1 Day = 8053

You can usually get about 10-15% discount on these taxi rates after getting in touch with the driver directly

    Hi Dheeraj,

Thanks for such an informative blog!

We are a group of 4 friends, wish to go from Srinagar to Leh and back from 13th August to 24th August (12 full days).

Would you suggest we take a shared cab from Srinagar to Leh, then hire a cab in Leh to go to Nubra / Tso Moriri and local sightseeing

    OR

Should we hire a cab all the way through from Srinagar to Leh and back.. From a cost point of view..?

Also, could you suggest some good car rental agencies that I can contact for quotes of car rental for the whole trip.

    Thanks again!

    Cheers,
    Kaushal.

    • Kaushal, well, fom cos perspective it will make a difference of Rs 1800-2000 at least per person if you hire a private taxi or if you go in a shared taxi. 15. hi dheeraj,
i am from gujarat and we are two friend .we are going for stock kangri trek .we want to visit pangong lake on 14 july ….can you suggest how i arrange that thing….

  16. Hi Dheeraj,
Me with my wife & 11 yrs kid planning for Leh trip on coming Aug. Itinerary is as follows
7-Aug – Srinagar to Leh, Night stay at Kargil
8-Aug – Kargill to Leh with sight seeing, night stay at Leh
    9-Aug – Leh local
    10-Aug – Leh to Nubra/Hunder , stay at Nubra
11-Aug – Nubra to Pangong stay at Pangong or Nubra to Leh stay at Leh
12-Aug – In case of option 1 – Pangong to Leh, for option 2 Leh to Pangong stay at pangong
13-Aug – applicable for Option 2 only Pangong to Leh.
Looking for your suggestion on the same.
Costing if we book a full cab, if cab sharing is possible ?
    Thanks in advance.

      • Unless there are two vehicles, I will never recommend that you take direct route between Pangong and Nubra with family.
        WHY ?

        • Because, in case you get stuck there will not be anyone around for miles in distance to help. That route is not frequented by people, so in case there is a mechanical breakdown atleast the other vehicle can give your mind the comfort of safety route.

  18. We are 3 of us reaching Srinagar on 21st June & would like to take a taxi to Leh with one day break in Kargil. I have a few queries in respect to hiring a taxi.

    1. A taxi for the entire trip of 9 days covering Kargil, Leh, Nubra, Pangong (incl. Lamayuru, Alchi, Likir, Hemis, Thiksey, Stok, etc) is quoting about 60k. Is this fine?

    2. What if we hire a vehicle from Srinagar for a drop at Kargil & take another vehicle from Kargil to Ladakh? Will this be economical?

    3. As we are only 3 of us, is there any option of hiring a sedan vehicle to cut down on the cost? Do you advice a sedan? If yes, can you suggest a transporter?

Pls clarify on the above points.

    Thanks in advance

You can get about 12-15% of discount by directly getting in touch with drivers and of course, talking in person rather on phone always help in bargaining more.

We are 3 friends and wish to visit Leh from Delhi. We are planning to start from Delhi to Manali to Leh to Srinagar to Delhi. Is it safe & comfortable to travel by our own i10 car. Since we have never drove the car on hilly areas, can we try on this route, since we are looking for adventure trip.
Our dates are from 10th jun’16 to 20th jun’16. Is it good time (roads are clear!) and are 10 days sufficient for entire trip?

Day 3: Leh – Hemis Monastery – Pangong Tso Lake
Day 4: Pangong Tso Lake – Thicksey Monastery – Shey Palace – Leh
Day 5: Local sight seeing @ Leh

      • Thanks for your response Dheeraj, I was thinking to take 1 day for acclimatization.. so that if we reach Leh on 5th morning.. we can start travelling from 6th morning.. or would you suggest to take more time in Leh and start travelling to these places from 7th June?
Also would you suggest us more place to cover other than these or places that can be covered on the way to these destinations! 🙂

  29. Saksham Talwar on

If we take a cab from Delhi to Leh, we won’t be allowed sightseeing in Leh? Do we’ve to take some permits or something!?

  31. Is the rate listed includes the taxi fare hike (12-19%) or we need to add it to the listed fare ?
For the application period of this fare, when does the 2015-16 year end ? what should be the applicable rates now — in May 2016 ?

  32. Amit Paul on

    Hi Dheeraj,

    Thank you for your reply.

I would like to visit Leh on June 1st week and would like to drive my New Swift Lxi (3 month Old) the Delhi to Manali to Leh again Leh to Manali to Delhi in 10 days. we travelling 4 person (2 can drive). I am 1st time driving to hills.
    please inform me the following:
    1. Is it recommend to take hatchback for this long journey and how the road condition.?
    2. How comfortable?
    3. Litre of Petrol consumption. as Swift has only 40 ltr tank.
    4. we are not a expert in driving. But we can manage.

    Please give your some view.

Thank you again Dheeraj! Great Work!

    • Amit, bhai, you will give your new car a punishment bro in such a case !! Early in season you will face lot of water crossings which means challenges and scraping the under body of the car. Not sure if your new car deserve it. Above all it is your first time in hills which makes me more nervous. Are you sure yo want to do it with your new car?

  33. Hey Dheeraj!
I’m a solo female traveller and would like to know if you suggest I use HPTDC bus to get from Manali to Leh or a shared taxi.
Safety is my main concern and I also want to enjoy the journey.
any other advice or suggestion or information you think I should know about the journey from Manali to Leh would be much appreciated!

    • Neha, best will be to get the HPTDC Manali to Leg bus only. There can be tons of info. to be shared about a Ladakh trip, can you please ask specific questisons?

  34. Aditya Aggarwal on

    Hi Dheeraj,

I would like to know that taxi drivers make any stop in between according to us so that we can enjoy the scenic beauty and do some photography.
Also tell if bus drivers make any stop between srinagar and leh except kargil.

    • Aditya, once you hire a taxi it is up to you to stop the taxi as many stops as you want. He is there for you from the start till end of the day. Just oblige when he says it is dangerous or we will get late, else mostly these are cheerful guys and help you enjoy your trip as you like. Also, it is always better to set the expectation upfront of too many stops so the driver is mentally prepared for it.

  35. thank you sir for your help. i wanted to know which is the best place for rafting.

i also wanted to know suld we go to zansar valley and from where? we wil b starting our journey from srinagar

  36. thank you so much for your help. and where can we do the best rafting.

also is it advisable to go to zansar valley. and from where do we go. our trip is of 12 days. we wil b travelling from srinagar.

    • Zanskar Valley needs about 4-5 days from Kargil only. So, o point doing it with just 12 days in hand. Rafting can be done in Zanskar River at Nimmu or Indus River at Phey in Sham Valley

  37. Hi Dheeraj,

First thank you for writing such information about Ladakh, it’s really helpful.
I wanted to know what is more preferable while traveling in Ladakh Considering road condition and time to reach destination, innova or tempo for 12 pax?
    Thank you..

    • I will suggest that you go with tempo traveller. Firstly it will be cheaper on pocket and secondly it will be comfortable than having 6 person in one taxi. If you guys are not worried about budget and traveling in separate groups, then I will say most comfortable will be to have three innovas.

  38. Hi DOW,

all above information are really helpful.

We 4 couple with one kid under 2 year are planning for Delhi-Manali-Leh-Manali-Delhi starting on 3rd June from Delhi and return Delhi on 12th June evening. it will 09 Nights / 10 Days

    we need following information.

    1. Approx Manali to Leh transportation cost via stay at Jispa or Surchu in Two Innova.
    2. Suggestion on hotels/guest house at Jispa/Surchu and Leh and Nubra.
    3. Weather condition during June. should we carry heavy winter cloths?
    4. Suggestion on best Itinerary for 9 night/10 day from New Delhi-Manali-Leh-Manali-New Delhi
    5. Some travel agent offered packaged of Rs. 24k per person for 8 Person group which include Transportation with Two Innova from Delhi, 4 room for 4 couples include Breakfast & Dinner.

    Thanks

  39. Hi Dheeraj,
Thanks for the information. This was very helpful. Please answer my below queries?
    1) We are a group of 7 people from Mumbai so should I prefer an Innova or a Tempo traveller?
    2) How much would Leh-Pangong-Leh in 2 days cost for the preferred vehicle?
    3) How much would Leh-Tsomoriri-Leh in 2 days cost for the preferred vehicle?
    4) Finally we are planning to return to Mumbai from Srinagar so contemplating a 3 days road trip to Srinagar with 1 night stays each at Lamayuru & Sonmarg so is this feasible and how much will the vehicle charge us?

    • 1. 7 is too tight for a single car, I will go with something like Winger or tempo 11 seater
      2. Around 11K
      3. Around 16-17K
      4. Around 16-18K, very much feasible

      • Thanks for the response Dheeraj….so should I book the tempo 11 seater by telephone from Mumbai or will I get a good deal once I reach there and inquire?

Also, will it be difficult to get a tempo 11 seater in Ladakh to travel to Srinagar for my 3 days trip? Will they charge half return too?

  40. Hi DoW

Everything you have written has really helped me plan my trip. My husband and i are planning to go this August. While, i have budgeted for stay, food and travel to and from Leh. I am a bit confused with the taxi tariffs.
We are planning to stay over night at Nubra Valley, Pangong Tso and Tso Moriri. How can i figure out how much it would cost from the tariff sheet?
Any advice would be most appreciated
    Thanks
    Pallavi

    • Pallavi, it will cost you 10301 for Pangong Tso, 14283 for Tso Moriri two day trip, 11177 for Nubra Valley two day trip. Same has been highlighted in the images above.

  41. hi dheeraj,
i would want to know what will be the approx time taken to cover same distance by either tempo traveller or innova. i need this analysis for wheather to hire 1 tempo traveller or 2 innova for a group of 14

    • IN case you are hiring three innovas, then only you will get the comfort from it else tempo for 14 will be much comfortable. 7 people in one ionnova will be too tight with luggage and for a place like ladakh where you need cushion as days are long.

  42. how much costs for the trip of leh laddakh from delhi by taxi . i wants to travel with my wife & a son 10 years old. the expected costs must includes the food ,travelling & hotels etc.

  43. kapil awasthi on

    Hi Dheeraj
I am travelling to Leh with my wife and 4 year old son for 6 days holiday. I have to book taxi for site seeing. What would be the best itinerary for 5 days and what would be approx cost by taxi. If you can refer some local agent or taxi driver, it would be great.

  44. bharat joshi on

    Hi dheeraj
News Chanells are showing that leh manali road is going to open by the end of april due to less snow this year what do you think we can use this way on our back journey around 20 may2016

    • Bharat, all depends upon the weather conditions. Possible realistic date of opening of Leh – Manali road I see is mid of May. Rohtang Pass has just opened yesterday and that not for all vehicles. There are 4 more passes to be cleared of snow.

  45. bharat joshi on

    Hi dheeraj
Thanks for a great job for Ladakh seekers i have planned leh tour in may this year
Though you must have posted somewhere but i couldn’t find that what is the no.of people capacity of an innova or tavera in leh tour because we are family with 2 adult and 2 kids and years so i can add one or two friends with me.
Also recommended driver quoted Rs.45000 pick up from srinagar to leh tour Rs.40000 pick up from kargil to leh tour and or Rs.
35000 pick up from leh to leh drop. ( including leh, nubra, pengong, tso moriri)
Do you think it is a reasonable rate.

    • Hi Bharat, for such long journeys, I prefer not to have more than 5 people in one car Innova or Xylo or Tavera. 6 is a bit tight and the one who sits in middle will really feel uncomfortable for long days. I will suggest in that case you can add just one person as for kids you might have to provide the whole seat as many a times they will sleep too.

  46. dear sir,
we r a group of 14 people travelling in end of june. following are my doubts:
    1. should we book 2 innovas or 1 tempo bus?
    2. will the trip travelling time increase if we take a bus?
    3. will veg food be available easily?
    4. my husband has little breathing problems. how safe is it for him. any specific precautions to be taken?
    5. can u help me with a nice itinerary starting from srinagar and ending with leh? . 12 days in total

    • Hello Vidhita,

      1. If you need more comfort and OK traveling in separate groups then yes Innova but three Innovas but if you just want to book two then it is better to go with Tempo traveller only
      2. Bus?? You mean public transport?
      3. Yes, veg food is available everywhere in Ladakh
      4. Well, I will definitely recommend you talk to the doctor, carry an oxygen cylinder (big one) with kit in the car/tempo and go from Srinagar side at easy pace.
      5. You can check a very balanced and most common itinerary for Leh – Ladakh followed by many travellers including me at the link here for 13-14 days: Most Common Itinerary for Leh – Ladakh.

      • is it safe to trave to tsomoriri directly from pangong ?

how is turtuk and is it advisable to go ther?

        • Regarding Pangong Tso to Tso Moriri route or Pangong Tso to Hanle, the permits to Man – Merak – Chusul – Tsaga or remote Changthang routes are being given by DC office in Leh at ON and OFF basis, so keep your fingers crossed and hope for the best if they start issuing the permits by the time you visit or issue you on your lucky day. Also, even if the permits are given then as well there is no guarantee that you will be allowed to cross Chusul Post or not because since last year several such incidents happened and people with permits also had to return via same route. The story is same this year too and only handful of people have passed through Chusul this year too on their lucky days. Then this is completely a dirt track all the way with quite a bumpy ride upto Tsaga. That churns most things in your stomach 😀 … Finally, totally isolated with no one around you in miles. All this will mean that you will have to risk it for at least a day getting wasted if you are not allowed because there will be no guarantee until you cross Chusul and Tsaga post. Otherwise, you have to take the traditional routes only via Upshi – Chumathang.

Turtuk is one of the amazing places in Ladakh, you need to make three day trip to Nubra Valley to visit Turtuk
