Very much like the previous years, just before the start of the Ladakh season 2014 – 15 I have been able to manage to get hold of the latest Leh – Ladakh Taxi Rates 2014 – 15 of leh taxi union for you all 🙂 🙂 … As expected, again this year the prices are hiked in a range of about 10-12% which is reasonably acceptable but would surely leave a dent on your pocket for sure 🙁 🙁 … Also, like it started with couple of year before, taxi union has separated the rates on the basis of model and make of the taxis and there are XUVs too available as taxi, which falls in the category of Innova and Xylo… The have grouped the taxis as –

  • XUV, Innova and Xylo (highest price tag)
  • Scorpio, Tavera, Sumo Grande, Qualis, Safari and Winger (middle price tag)
  • Eeco, Omni Van, Sumo old (lowest price tag)

Below you can find the entire rate list of leh taxi union rates for 2014 – 15 for sightseeing purposes within Ladakh and to Manali and Srinagar for this year.

These are the rates from last year and you can find the updated Leh Ladakh taxi union rates for the year 2015 – 16 at the link: Leh Ladakh Taxi Rates 2015 – 16

    Hi Dheeraj,

Thanks for the amazing info . You are doing social service here. Got a few more questions though.
    1) Taxi charges for leh-nubra, leh-pangong tso are mentioned as 10-11k for qualis/tavera, how many ppl fit into that, 7 or 10?
    2) Do we also get shared taxis for leh-manali? if yes what are the charges and timings and travel time?
    3) I will be in leh for 5 days, and as per your strong AMS dealing recommendaton I have only fir Nubra and pangong tso into it. Is tso moriri woth a miss?
    4. Are bike rentals avalaible from leh to nubra? If yes, can you please share the charges?

    • 1. 7 is too tight, I opt at max 5 only
      2. Yes, you do get them from Leh taxi stand. Timings depend upon drivers and other co-drivers, you can check an evening before. Charges will be around 1800-2800 per seat. Even buses run on this route.
      3. Well, if your first trip and you want to make most of it then skip Tso Moriri
      4. Yes plenty of bike rentals are there

  2. subroto ray on

hello, i am mr. subroto ray.
i am travelling to srinagar in last week of june 2016. could you inform me about the timing of share taxi from srinagar to kargil.

    • Subroto, shared taxis directly to Leh leave around 3-4 AM but those going to Kargil are available till 7 – 8 AM. Different drivers leave at different time based on the timings of Zojila Pass. You can get in touch with them a night before to book a seat.

  5. hello sir,

please suggest can we hire shared taxi from sonmarg to leh . or can we travel this distance in same day???

    • Soni, it is difficult to get any shared taxi from Sonamarg. Shared taxis usually run between Srinagar to Leh and Srinagar to Kargil and then Kargil to Leh

  6. Hi Dheeraj.

He has more than 25 years of driving experience. Owns a Mahindra Xylo. He used to drive trucks for army earlier. His contact : 09419269824 and 09797495764.

      • Hi Dheeraj
I am from Assam, India.M planing to visit ladakh in august’15 along with my three friends.we will reach jammu on 06/08/15 at 6AM.we want to go by rented car like indica, swift dezire to leh.how much it will cost and will we reach on same day?.

        • Ok thanks.how much i have to pay for big cars.will we reach on same day if we start in the morning

        • For the leh – ladakh taxi union rate list 2015 – 16 including the contacts of some reliable taxi drivers within Leh – Ladakh, check the link here. 7. Hi Dheeraj
Wow for your continous help through these forums.i would like to ask one doubt.we r 4 people returning from leh on 26 july evening.what is the chance of getting shared taxi/minibus to srinagar and how much it take to reach srinagar in such taxi.is it possible to travel over night to reach srinagar morning?
    Thanks in advance

    • Justin, you should be able to get the shared taxis easily from Leh. Every morning Srinagar taxis return and they mostly run a cannonball run. They start around 2-3 AM in night and reach Srinagar by 6 in the evening. Charges around 1300-1500 per seat

      • Can we take a private taxi say around 4pm from leh and travel overnight to srinagar?is any restrictions in night in leh to srinagar?

        • Justin the roads up to Drass will be fine but then from Minamarg to Zojila, especially the ascend and descend of Zojila will be tricky. It might be possible that checkpost at Minarmarg ahead of Drass will not allow you to travel towards Zojila Pass in wee hours of the day. So, if you really want to do it whole night and some driver agrees, though not suggested as you will be missing the beauty, better start around 9-10, so that you cross the Zojila pass in light.

  8. Hi Dheeraj,

I am fan of your blog .. reading all articles since last 2 years. Not even follow you over facebook but also ordered many items from your DoW Store.

Actually I am looking for drivers contact for Spiti Valley / Kinnaur Valley trip from Shimla or Manali.

Please share requested details if possible.

    Thanks again.
    Ravi Raj

    • Thank you so much Ravi !! 🙂 🙂

You can get connected directly to some drivers in Spiti Valley or Kinnaur Valley at the link: List of Taxi Drivers for Spiti Valley & Kinnaur Valley. These drivers can come and pick you up from Manali / Shimla / Delhi / Chandigarh too, of course with a price of pickup as well.

The rates of the taxis are about Rs 3000-3500 per day depending upon the number of days you plan to travel, more the days, less the price.

Otherwise, taxis in general are also available on the spot from Shimla or Manali from respective taxi stands

  11. Hi, Very useful information. Im reading your blog since a month as im planning to go to leh on 21st July 2015. I need your help in car booking as we are just of us and we need a safe n reliable driver with us. Our journey starts from 18th July from Srinagar and ends at Manali on 30th.

    • SD, I only have the list of drivers listed above and you can refer the comprehensive list too which is provided in the link. there many people have provided the feedback as well.

  12. Hi,

Its awesome to read through this page… good info..
Can you please suggest me a way to book a taxi to Leh through Sringar… We are just 2 in number… planning for july last week

    • You are going as a couple and private taxis are very costly in Leh but you will be able to find the shared taxi without much fuss at all. There are lots of flyers which people put at cafes, dine-ins, restaurants, travel agent desks/shops/whiteboards wanting to share the taxis for different trips within Ladakh. Even travel agent organize such shared taxis trip as well but charge a little higher about Rs 200-300 more than it would ideally cost. So, in worst case you can always go back to them and book a seat for yourself. Gelling up with people in Ladakh is more or less easy because many people travel solo and look forward to meet new people and share cultural thoughts and values over the trip. No where else in the world you will find more smiling and helpful people as Ladakhis are 🙂

      • Hi Dheeraj,
Im from malaysia.. very useful information uve got here.. i would like to ask regarding road trip from srinagar to leh and the trekking in leh.. how much will it cost for 2 people?.. if possible we would like to share the taxi.. do u recommend any travel agencies with affordable pricing… and is it peak season during end of aug/early sept? Thank you soo much beforehand yea…

        • Hi Nirossha,

You are two and private taxis are very costly in Leh but you will be able to find the shared taxi without much fuss at all. 15. Yogesh Tiwari on

    Hi Dheeraj,

I got the information from Leh official site that now Srinagar to Leh route is open now 🙂 & now iI want to go to kargil(from Srinagar) on 26 May’15 & from to Leh(from Kargil) on 28 May’15. Can you pls let me know about transport availability for this route & charges of Buses and shared taxi as well.

    • Yogesh, yes you can refer the widget too on the right side bar that says Srinagar- Leh is open. But, actually it is open only for light vehicles. In the morning the traffic ios allowed from Sonamarg side and in the afternoon from drass side. Shared taxis charge about 12-1500 per seat basis and will be there near Torist Reception Center in Srinagar or Srinagar taxi stand.

  16. Hello Dheeraj,

I will be flying from Hyderabad – Srinagar during 2nd week of June and from Srinagar – Leh am planning to use road transport ( Bus or Shared taxi ) till Leh ( where am hiring a motorbike ). So can you help me with the information where are there any Buses available till Leh or do u suggest taking a shared taxi till Leh !

If its a shared taxi how much will they charge !

    Thanks in Advance 🙂

    • Psandee, there will be buses available in Srinagar which can take you to Leh. Better take a bus to KArgil, halt overnigth there and then take bus to Leh from Kargil next day. Bus tickets will cost you around 800-1000 and seat in shared taxi somewhere around 1200-1500 with night halt at Kargil

  17. Hi Dheeraj

We are group of 4 people planning for a trip to Leh.
    Plan outline :
    1. Will be reaching from delhi to srinagar on 19th June around 4 in the evening and planing to leave for kargil on the same day and will do an overnight stay @Kargil.
    2. Next day will be moving for Leh and planing to stay and roam around there for next 5days and will be coming back to srinagar to board our flight on 7th day.

    Queries that we have :
    1. Shall we book a cab for all the 7days (if so which cab for 4 people and how much will they charge) ??
    2. Or should we go via bus or public transport from srinagar–>>Kargil and Kargil –> Leh ??
    3. Good budget guest house in an around leh.

    • Hi Anshul,

      1. It will not be possible, max you can reach is Sonamarg
      2. Next day move to Leh from Sonamarg at 5 AM.

      Regarding queries:
      1. You can get connected with drivers in the list above and book a taxi for the entire tour. Else get one taxi to drop you to Leh from Srinagar and then get one in Ladakh which will drop back in Srinagar
      2. If budget is constraint then go for public transport one side that is from Leh to Srinagar
      3. You can check the nice, preferred list of accommodation options in entire Leh – Ladakh (Leh, Nubra Valley, Pangong Tso, Tso Moriri) including moderate (cheap budget hotels as well) in the series of articles starting on the link here

      Regards
      Dheeraj

  18. Hi Dheeraj,
We are a group of 5 people and would be visiting Leh on 3rd Of July.
Can we have a transport from Srinagar- Leh- Manali which will help us cover both the routes.
Please let me know what should be the best option considering I have a time windows of 12 days.

    • Rupam, you can get in touch with the drivers listed in the article above and they shall be able to help you out for pickup from Srinagar and then drop in Manali.

  19. Pooja singh on

    Hi Dheeraj,

We are planning our Leh trip and would be following the same itinerary as per your most common itinerary.

But we will be reaching Srinagar by flight in the morning of 6th Aug (till now its the plan but we can plan it early too) and want to get back to Delhi till 15th aug morning.

Could you please suggest us, how we can manage our travel in cheapest way as we are couple travelling alone and can not spend so much money 🙁

As per above taxi rate list travelling will be very expensive for us, please suggest us the better way to travel.
could you please provide us the approx budget ??

    Thanks
    Pooja

      • Jatin Ahuja on

Hi Dheeraj! Would August 1st week be an ideal season to undertake a road trip (taxi) from Srinagar to Leh? Or is it better to just fly into Leh directly? Flying into Srinagar does save costs’ substantially. We’re 2 couples planning to reach Leh 1st/ 2nd August. Please let me know your thoughts. Also, any idea if it makes sense to book directly or through some agent like ThomasCook or Kesri? Thanks!

        • Jatin, it will be better to fly in just to avoid the monsoon hassles in lowers hills else flying to Srinagar and then going to Kargil is also fine because up to Kargil in case it rains then only you need to suffer the monsoon hassles else once you reach Kargil, then mostly beyond it is rain shadow. Though this site contains all the info. you need to plan a trip for Ladakh but still if you need an agent help then you can connect with info@offbeatescapes.com as most of the readers in the past couple of years have had very good feedback about them and their transparent policies. Plus they specialize there only unlike others you have mentioned above.

        • Hi Jatin,

I am a solo traveller from Canada and noticed that your travel dates are the same as mine. If you don’t mind having another person (female) join your group, please get in touch asap. My tickets are booked and I am 100% certain of going.

          Thanks
          Kirti

  20. hello Dheeraj,

i am planning my first backpacking trip also solo to Leh and looking to spend roughly 20 days. i was planning on doing the round trip bike tour from New Delhi but it will be too much for me to handle, though i would like to do bike tour once in Leh. i’ve spent quiet few hours on your posts which are very valuable and have come up with below destinations:

pangong tso – overnight trip via hemis monestary and thicksey on the way back.
tso moriri – overnight trip via chamathang covering kartok and return via Tso kar.
    Nubra Valley
    Zanskar Valley
staying locally in guest house in chengspa either City Heart / Wisdom Holiday or Hotel Horzy covering local sights by walking preferrably such as shanti stupa, Leh Palace, Namgyal Tsemo Gompa.

since i am solo, should i go thru travel agent to so i can be part of a group or what is your recommendation?
also, what other sites or any trekking do you recommend? i’d like to take meditation classes if possible and stay at a monastary rather than a hotel or guest house.

    your help is greatly appreciated.

    • Hi KM,

I will suggest that you go on your own and there is enough info. on the DoW to plan a trip successfully. You can choose to take public transport such as Shared Jeeps or Buses to reach and once in Leh you can hire rented bikes if you have decent experience of riding in hills. Else look for travel partners to share taxis once you reach at Leh.

You can check a very balanced and most common itinerary for Leh – Ladakh followed by many travellers including me at the link here for 13-14 days: Most Common Itinerary for Leh – Ladakh.

Rest of the days you can keep for some short treks around Leh, a day extra in Turtuk once in Nubra Valley and couple of days of meditation classes in monasteries preferably off the route and non-tourity ones.

      Regards
      Dheeraj

  21. Hi Dheeraj,

This article and the site on the whole is of a great help man. Thanks.

We are looking for Innova from Leh – kargil (Night stay), kargil to sri nagar (drop).

2 Days, how much would that charge for us.?

Thank you for your help once again 🙂

  22. Hi

I am planning for travel between 13th May to 23rd May between Leh – Ladhak – Kargil – Srinagar. Please let me know if this is the right time to go there? I am going with my family. Any good places to stay in Leh, Nubhra, Panagong, Kargil and Srinagar? Please suggest

    • Murali, all depends upon if the Srinagar – Leh Highway will open by that time or not. Seeing the record snowfall this year and snowfall continuing as late as last week, I imagine it difficult that Srinagar – Leh might be open by mid of May. Even if it gets open, the conditions are pretty unstable and avalanches are common in the first 8-10 days till the high settles. Hence, it is recommended, if the Srinagar – Leh Highway opens about 2 weeks before your travel dates, then only venture for the journey else avoid it.

      • Thanks Dheeraj.

Given that my tickets are already booked. I will try and complete my Leh-Ladhak trip during that period (hope it is okay for this). If the situation is bad, then will take a flight to Srinagar from Leh. Hope this will work.

        Pls suggest
