Itinerary Advice from September 28th to October 7th

Postby pramodchota » Tue Sep 12, 2017 11:06 am

We are 5 guys planning for a 10 day trip to Ladakh. This is the first visit for us to such high altitudes.

28th Sep: Reach Leh by Flight from Delhi And Rest for whole day for Acclimatization

29th: Hire 4 Bikes and head to Khardung La and then to Nubra Valley (Night Stay at Hunder)

30th: Sightseeing in Nubra (Diskit & Panamik)

1st Oct: Nubra to Pangong (Via Shyok or Wari La depending upon the road conditions)

2nd: Full day stay at Pangong (Tangtse or Spangmik)

3rd: Pangong to Tso Moriri (Via Karu for Fuel)

4th: Tso Moriri sightseeing and Vist to Tso Kar (Stay at Tso Kar)

5th: Tso Kar to Leh (If possible cover Thiksey, Hemis and Shey Monasteries on the way)

6th: Leh to Drass/ Kargil

7th: Drass to Sringar (We have return Flight from srinagar in the evening at 6:30 Pm)

We have few concerns regarding the following points:
1) Is it ok to have just 1 day for acclimatization as we are directly landing in leh?

2) Road conditions from Nubra to Pangong (as we are palnning a bike trip)?

3) Is accomodation available at pangong, tsomoriri and tsokar (as it will be around October 1st week by the time we visit)?

It would be really helpful for us, if anyone can suggest/comment on our itinerary..
We appreciate your valuable feedback on our Itinerary

Regards

Pramod,

on the acclimatization, one day should be enough. Just make sure you guys keep yourselves hydrated. If anyone is not doing well, then don't venture towards Khardungla or Nubra.

Hope you guys have enough experience of riding bikes in the hills. You've planned Panamik, just out of my experience, there's nothing much in Panamik. Since you have a 3 days Nubra plan, try if you can make it to Turtuk.

Check on road conditions from Nubra to Pangong tso before venturing. As of now, road is fine, with minor water crossings, but end of Sep it should not be a problem

Pangong to Tso moriri in one day via karu would be too long, Check if you want to break at Chumathang for the night. In Pangong you should be able to get, and in Tso kar also. It is end of season, but still you will find 1-2 places to stay atleast.

Last day ensure to leave early so that you dont rush for your flight.

Thanks Vinod for your feedback!

We'll check with Turtuk.

As per your suggestion, we'll just stick to Pangong to Chumatang on 3rd October. Therefore Night stay would be at Chumatang and next morning we'll take Tso Moriri and then to Tso Kar and we'll stay there for night.

Apart from the above things mostly everything is a doable task right?

Yes, thats right. Take a decision on the go, since you wont be pre booking anyway :)

Stay at Tso Kar is both expensive and very cold ;)

Get your permits done beforehand. And for Leh to Srinagar you'll be using a taxi I think..

Before chumatang, there is upshi, 170 km before tso moriri, it also has basic stay facilities...
