Permits for Manali - Rohtang Pass Road
The Rohtang Pass Permit for Manali to Leh, Keylong (Lahaul) and Kaza (Spiti) is no longer being issued online. Now, online Rohtang Permit is available only to visit Rohtang Pass from Manali not to go beyond it. To go beyond Rohtang Pass, you can apply permit in SDM Office Manali which is also open half day on weekends now to issue permits to tourists. You can read the complete detailed process at the link: How to get Rohtang Pass Permit Online

Bikers also need these permits or pay these congestion charges as per last reports but there is no option to select bike in web form :( :( ...

If you are coming from Keylong side or Kaza side, then you do not need any permit to ply on Manali – Rohtang Pass road even if you have a non-HP registered vehicle. Permit is required only if you are going from Manali side towards Rohtang Pass.

Yeah, the next update pretty much says there will be more delay as BRO is still to start the road clearance from Manali side and with snowfall during this week, it will further delay

Snow clearance operations have started in bits and pieces on many stretches. 8/9 June should be a safe bet I believe.

Manali-Leh road will opened by June

Postby dheerajsharma14 » Sun Apr 02, 2017 10:26 pm

Well, as per the recent updates it looks like that there will certainly be delay in opening of Manali - Leh Highway this year. The snow clearance operations on Manali - Rohtang Pass - Keylong road has just begun and is quite late as per last year. It will take about a month to restore the road from Manali to Rohtang Pass to Keylong. This means we are expecting about couple of weeks of delay in opening of Manali - Leh Highway as BRO will move towards Sarchu after clearing the snow from Manali - Rohtang Pass - Keylong route, as per reports. Please plan your trips accordingly guys.

Manali 25th March 2017: The strategic Manali-Rohtang-Keylong road would be made functional again by May end, according to Border Roads Organisation officials.

Commanding Officer of 38 Border Road Task Force Lt. Col. Mayank Mehta said the entire Manali-Leh road would be opened by June end. The restoration work, including snow-cutting operations, have started from Rahla Falls, about 28 km from the tourist resort of Manali in Kullu, he added.

There are reports of 20-25 feet snow in and around the 13,000-foot-high Rohtang Pass. The operation was delayed by about a week due to very low temperatures in the higher hills. It takes months to clear the Manali-Keylong road.

After clearing the road till Keylong, the headquarters of Lahaul-Spiti, the BRO would move towards Sarchu in Leh, about 222 km from Manali.

It is likely that the road may have opened just then. Have a back up plan of flying back from Leh if the Leh-Manali highway is not open by then
