Thanks a ton Dheeraj for your reply. I don't know anything about permit.
I have few questions related to this trip;

1 - For which location do we need the permits?
2 - could you please walk me through with the procedure of getting permits?
3 - we are 4 people and looking for budgeted hotels/camps stay, could you please provide hotel/camp contact details?

1. you will need permit for nubra valley and pangong tso. You can visit this link for more information. http://devilonwheels.com/ladakh-inner-l ... line-2017/ In your case, it would be good to apply online for permit as 13th August will be sunday and due to that DC office will be closed.
2. You can do it online.
3. Visit this link for information about stay options- ladakh-zanskar-hotels-guest-houses/ladakh-budget-hotels-camps-accommodations-t23.html

Hope it helps.. :)

If we go by private car ( white number plate), do we still need the permit?

Also, i m concerned with the weather. I have heard that aug is not the right time to go to leh as one can expect heavy rainfall :(

Nikhil, It is monsoon time in general up there in North and at some parts of Manali - Leh Highway (like before Baralacha La) and Srinagar - Leh Highway (like before Kargil) you might need to face monsoon hassles but once you get closer to Ladakh, then Ladakh being rain shadow region is least affected by monsoon rains. Landslides or slush or road blocks are pretty common in the month of monsoons but these landslides are cleared in a day or two unless there is a very major one. Having said that, rains does reach Ladakh nowadays but in general, it is overcast days or in form of light drizzles. I will suggest you also read my article on http://devilonwheels.com/10-tips-trip-ladakh-in-monsoons/

The rule says even the white numberplate should be in your or your family member nam whose relationship you can prove with an ID.
