Valley Of Flowers and Hemkunt Sahib - Most Common Itinerary

Valley of Flower and Hemkunt Sahib are two gems in the lap of Western Himalayas in the Chamoli district of Uttrakhand.
Shri Hemkunt sahib is Gurudawara Sahib were tenth sikh guru shri guru govind singh ji .It is beautiful gurudawra at the height of 4632 meters. It amidst seven mountain peaks with glacial peak in the middle.Its Trek starts from govind ghat which is second last station on Rishekesh-Badrinath highway ,From were trek of 25 kms starts

The Valley of Flowers National Park at the Height 3700/4000mtrs is the second core zone of the Nanda Devi Biosphere Reserve. Nestling in the west Himalayan region, it covers a vast expanse of 87.50 sq kms with 300 varieties of alpine flowers .The Paradise Called Valley of flowers was discovered by great Mountaineer Frank S Smith in the year 1931.

It is also a World Heritage Site ,It connects Himalayan ranges, Zanskar and Western and Eastern Himalayas. This Valley is located in the high altitudes of Himalayas is protected by snowy mountains. It shows it various colors in the months from July to October when about 300 varieties comes to life and make this place look like a fairyland......The things which make it more spectacular are waterfalls and stream which make scene a breath taking experience......The Trek which is accounted as average trek till the flower meadows starts....After That it is more of a Stroll in Wonderland........With the flamboyant paddocks, crystalline streams and majestic peaks, this baroque of flowers is a worthy watch spectacle.

Trek To Valley of Flower also starts from Govind ghat and diverts from Ghagira which is near Govind Dham and is 16 Kms from Govind Ghat
Best Suited Itinerary Ex Delhi

Day 1 Delhi to Rishekesh/Haridawar (200kms 3/4hours)
Delhi to Rishikesh is about 200kms and it takes about 4 hours maximum and all depends on traffic ,Roads are in good shape but traffic can be headache some times. You can Also Reach Till haridawar by train and proceed further from there ,You can Roam Local places and even try Water and adventure sports

Day 2- Rishekesh/Haridawar to Govind Ghat( 275kms 8/10 hours)
You can Take bus From Haridawar which starts at 4.30/5 in the morning and it reaches 5/5.30 at Rishekesh. You can also take the Shared Cabs which are available at both the places near bus stand and Cab start early 5.If you are on your personal Car try to Start early as you have to Cover 275kms in a day .In your Day you will cover Devprayag>Srinagar>Rudraprayag>Joshimath.You would be easily able to reach Govind Ghat By 5.There are a lot of Hotels Available in Govind Ghat, You can also Get accommodation in Gurudwara Sahib

Day 3- Govind Ghat to Govind Dham/Ghagria (15kms of Trek 4-6 hours)
You have to Start Early on this day also as it Trek is tiring and is of Average Difficulty .Ponies and Porters are easily Available.You will Pass thru Pulia and Bhyundar Village and there are many shops on the way ,so you can have plenty to eat

Day 4- Govind Dham/Ghagira to Valley of Flowers (5-7kms of Trek 4-6 hrs)
Start early by 6 Soon after starting our trek we will observe a very beautiful waterfall on our right side just in front of Valley of Flowers, check point gate. After taking entry tickets we will enter into the fairyland ,Trek is again average and enjoyable. Porter are Available, Carry your food as nothing is available inside the park .Start Back by 2 so that you can easily reach before evening

Day 5- On This day you have options
Option One Ghaghira to Hemkunt sahib to Govind Ghat (27kms of trek 12-14hours)
You have to start early and reach Hemkunt sahib.The Trek is Very Tough and it is hardest you will face on this route. But you will be treated with breat taking views.Then you have to trek all the way down to Govind Ghat,Its going to be tiring and heavy for knees as maximum of it is descent
Option Two-Ghaghira/Govind Dham to Hemkunt sahib to Govind Dham/Ghagira.(12kms of trek up and back 5/6 hrs)You can take a rest if you can’t continue towards Govind Ghat

Option three-Govind dham To Govind Ghat(15kms of Trek 3 hrs).
You can trek down to govind ghat in maximum three hours and proceed towards Badrinath which is 25kms from there(4/5hrs)

Day 6 Govind Ghat To Rishekesh(275 kms 8/10hrs).
You can take a shared taxi which start early in morning or bus which start at 6.It will take 8/10 hrs to reach Rishekesh.

Day 7 Rishekesh to Delhi (200kms 4 hrs)

Short Itinerary
Day 1 Rishekesh to Govindghat(night travel from Delhi(200kms 4hrs))(275kms 8/10hrs)
Day 2 GovindGhat to Govind Dham/Ghagira(16kms of trek 4/6hrs)
Day 3 Govind Dham to Valley of flowers to Govind Dham (5/7 kms of trek 4/6hrs)
Day 4 Govind Dham to Govind Ghat to Srinagar(15kms of trek 3 hours and 175kms of road travel 3/5 hours)Buses are available from govind ghat till 3 in evening which reach Srinagar by 8 in night
Day 5 Srinagar To Rishekesh to Delhi(100 kms till rishekesh 2 hours and 200kms till Delhi 4 hrs)You can take same bus which you took last day from govind ghat or can take first bus which starts at 6 in morning)
Best Season / Best time to visit

Valley has a cool but pleasant climate all through the year.

Summers (June to October) have a cool weather with maximum temperature reaches to nearly 10-17 °C and is a good season for viewing the panoramic beauty.

Winters (November to May) Minimum temperature can go well down with average minimum about 3-5°C.

Best time to visit Valley of Flowers/Hemkunt Sahib is between July to October. is pleasant and ideal for the visit of the national park and is good for spotting endangered animals.

August and September are eye catching months with blooming flowers. Temp about 10-15°C.

December to May Not recommended as its snow all round,Temp goes below zero

Modes of Reaching Till Govind ghat

Buses-Local buses and state transports
Cabs-Regular cabs implying on this route
Lifts-From Border road organisation trucks and local plying on the route
Motorcycles-Can be hired from Rishekesh

This is wonderful update Preet. I am sure this will help many many travelers in time to come, top it up with few pictures too.

I feel we need more and more DoW Recommended most common itineraries for different places in Uttarakhand like Char Dham together, Panch Kedar together, Char Dham individuals... It would ease out many many things for members here. Thank you for kick starting this process.

Cant Resist this...want to do this trip this December only....planning to take family along any contacts who can take care of the entire journey from haridwar would be helpful.
will be travelling from Bangalore to delhi/haridwar.

Not sure if VoF and Hemkund Sahib is possible in December as trek route moat likely to be closed.

It is not possible till next June plus the trek to the valley is about 20 km (one way from last roadhead) and a difficult one. So plan accordingly.
