Winter Ladakh fascinates so many…. and if one goes well prepared there is nothing much to worry about.
I’ll try my best to give details about the preparation in this travelogue.

First and foremost best time to see winter Ladakh…. !!
January end and February starting...... as till that time Pangong completely freezes.

Flights
Many flights go Leh …..Jet airways, Go Air, Air India
Note – as the flight schedule depend lot on weather, Private Airlines have less cancellation rates as compared to Air India

Hotels
Not many Hotels are open so its better to prebook and go.
Sharing details of hotels where we stayed..!!

Leh- Panorama Hotel
Owner – Saleem, very helpful guy.
Location - Away from main market (approx 2 km ) on Changspa Road
Rooms – Centrally heated, heating is switched off at 12 in the night and started again at 4:30 in the morning.
Running hot water
Good room service
Food - Buffet system (veg soup, Non veg/ veg dishes, Roti, Rice )
Only negative point is that it is quite far from main market.

Hunder, Nubra Valley – Habib guest house

Heard lot about Mr. Rehman owner of Habib Guest house and after meeting him I was convinced that why people praise him.
He is a gem of a person with excellent services. He and his family try their best to make your stay as comfortable as possible even in minus temperature.
Hotel opened throughout the year.
Rooms – are heated with wood and kerosene and It is really helpful for a comfortable sleep even when the outside temp dips to – 20 deg C.
Food – local veg food, which is best relished sitting in their warm kitchen.
Hot water is given in bucket as there is shortage of water in Winters.
(Hats off to them because for this, they get up early in the morning when the temp. is in minus degree C and heat water using wood. They go in the afternoon to collect water in cans and store them for next day use)

Dates of the Trip were finalised

21nd Jan - 29th Jan 2015
As we got very good deal in GO air flight approx. Rs.1500 only

Itinerary (different from what was actually planned)

21st Ludhiana to Delhi by train
22nd Delhi to Leh by Go Air (rest and acclimatize)
23rd Leh – Gurudwara Patthar Sahib – Sangam – Leh
24th Leh – Khardungla pass – Nubra valley -- Diskit -- (Hunder sand dunes )
25th Hunder – Sumur monastery – Panamik – North Pullu – sent back due to block at K top – Hunder
26th Hunder – North pullu – K top (Republic day flags hosted ) – Leh
27th Leh – Chang La Pass – Pangong – Chang La – Leh
28th Leh – Nimmu – Lamayuru – Leh
29th Leh – Delhi – Ludhiana

Other members of this trip were my wife and three more people from Ludhiana.

Day 1- 21st Ludhiana to Delhi by train

Day 2- 22nd Delhi to Leh by Go Air

We were the first one to check in at the New Delhi Airport but still not lucky to get 5A seat
(5A seat is supposed be the best for clicking good views of Ladakh.)
People had already booked those seats by online check-in which starts 48 hrs before departure of flight.
We were still lucky enough to get 3 window seats.
But in winter trip luck has to be with you at many levels.... The weather was not in favor it was raining in Delhi and cloudy in Leh...!!

So the setback was flight delay of one hour and no clear views from the airplane.
And above all I had just brought my first DSLR and a month time was very less for understanding shuter-mutter, aperture-puncture etc

Enough of written stuff lets start the show now…..!!

Who says ... very few people go to Ladakh in Winters.... we don't say that.... ;) ;)
Our flight was housefull..... :) :)
