The weather gods showered the blessing in terms of snow as most parts of Northern India continues to get snowfall including Manali, Shimla, Patnitop, Auli, Dharamshala for the last 36 Hours. It feels that 2011 is a good year for snow as it was only after 15 years that Dharamshala has turned white. The snow eluded Dharamshala for 15 years but this time the place is covered with white carpet. The tourists are enjoying snow at Manali, Solang Valley, Shimla, Kufri, Patnitop, Dharamshala and are waiting that even Mussoorie can witness the white carpet soon. All other highers reaches and passes including Rohtang Pass, Kunzam Pass, Jalori Pass, Zozila Pass continued to get feets of snowfall which gets stored as stock for all of us to witness in summers
However, as the snowfalls the life in the regions gets crippled as well. The power was cut for these regions as a safety measure and bus services were also suspended in these regions. The roads have been blocked at many places in Himachal, Kashmir, Uttrakhand and are only likely to be restored after weather condition gets improved. According to Meteorology department, the present conditions of western disturbances are expected to remain for next couple of days resulting in more snowfall in the higher Himalayas.
In Himachal, higher reaches of the state, including the tribal districts of Kinnaur, Lahaul Spiti and Pangi, had been experiencing heavy snowfall since last night. There has been several feets of snowfall at Kharapatthar and Narkanda which disrupted the vehicular movement to Kinnuar, Rampur, Rohru and Jubbal Kotkhai. The bus services in Manali remained disrupted connecting the local regions. McLeodganj, Dharamkot, Naddi and Bhagsunag were also cut off from the lower areas due to snow. But, farmers of orchards are linking the snow as this would mean better crop of orchards for them.
In Uttrakhand, roads to Yamunotri and Gangotri remained blocked at Phoolchatti and Harsil, respectively. Meanwhile, continuous rain and snowfall were reported in the higher reaches of Chamoli, Rudraprayag, Tehri, Uttarkashi, Champawat, Pithoragarh and some other high-altitude areas of the state. Rain accompanied by hail lashed the plain areas of the state, including capital Dehradun.
Kashmir valley, also remained under a thick blanket of snow after day-long moderate to heavy snowfall yesterday. The Srinagar-Jammu National Highway was opened to one-way traffic after remaining closed for a day. Most of the flights were cancelled yesterday, but some of these resumed from Srinagar today.
