Leh – Ladakh Flood | More Relief Material Reach Victims

It’s been a little relief for victims of Leh – Ladakh flash flood, when almost 1300 quilts (out of 5000 on the way) and financial help reached them by two different sources. Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board and Jammu and Kashmir Children’s Welfare Society, an NGO were among the beneficiaries this time to let a helping hand for the people who suffered this surprising natural calamity of the mother nature in their region’s history.

The cloudburst flash flood on 6th August 2010 produced havoc in the Leh region when almost close 200 lost their lives and many still missing. It was one of the worst fury of the mother nature on the people of heaven and we were very unlucky to witness it from our eyes, as we escaped the destruction by almost 2-3 odd KMs

It feels great to see that many sources including Indian Army, NGOs, public travel forums etc have come out to help people of Leh – Ladakh in this torrid time and are employing relief operations. Ladakh is a difficult terrain to survive at least in winters and I just pray / hope / wish to god that before the winter sets in, at least few of the house are built if not all to provide these people who have lost families, properties, lives and what not, some relief.

Jammu and Kashmir Children’s Welfare Society, an NGO, has adopted four girl children for providing education. Chairman of the society Gurdeep Singh Sasan at a media conference here today said the society was sending 130 cheques for Rs 500 each to the Deputy Commissioner, Leh, for distribution among children affected by the recent flash floods.

In another helping hand:

The first lot of about 1,296 heavy quilts, out of the 5,000 announced by Governor NN Vohra for being provided to the flood-affected people in Ladakh, reached Leh today. Goyal, according to an official spokesman, said three trucks carrying 1,296 quilts reached Leh today while another installment of nearly 900 quilts was scheduled to reach Leh on Thursday
