Kinner Villa, Kalpa | Hotel Review
By Dheeraj Sharma on Jun 24, 2010 10:43 in Hotel Reviews / 1 comment
Kalpa located in Kinnaur Valley of Himachal Pradesh, I never thought would be that beautiful what I witnessed reaching there. The place is just majestic and the views of Kinner Kailash range from almost any of the hotel at Kalpa would just make your jaws drop at any day. We were extremely lucky to witness such fanatic weather at such awesomely beautiful location in Kinnaur Valley. It was summers almost (April end) and we witnessed a good 4-5 hours of snowfall which really made our trip. But, of course not to take any credit from the place where we stayed "Kinner Villa"
Kinner Villa offered great vistas of the entire Kinner Kailash range flavored with Punjabi style food. We enjoyed the stay over there and if interested in knowing more on how we reached this hotel you may also check link below for further details of our journey –

Here is my complete review…

Bookings:
Booking can be done by calling at one of these numbers
- 01786-226006
- 01768-226506
- 09418036006 (Mr Shivdayal Negi)
You can also mail them at kinnervilla@rediffmail.com
I would really like to HIGHLIGHT that if you are about to reach late, then I must say that you call them and ask someone to be always close to reception until you reach. We missed the trick and had to sleep all night in the car itself.
Price:
They offered us Rs 4500 for three room but some how we bargained to make it 4000 for them. Also they allowed us to let in at 5.00 AM without charging for the day even though the check-in time was 12.00 PM standard. The charges for food were decent which are applicable at their restaurant / dining hall downstairs. Overall we had 4 complete meals over there with lots of snacks/teas/coffees in between, (almost 4 time I feel). Our tally/charges for food was Rs 4400 and of course were were a group of 10 people that means almost Rs 110 per meal per person with tea/coffee 3-4 times.
Location:
You need to go straight from Reckong-Peo towards Kalpa, you will find ample of sign-boards which will help you lead to the destination. As you progress towards towards Kalpa you will find HPTDC property Kinner Kailash, don’t turn towards it and Keep going on it. After 1.5 KM you will reach Kinner Villa. It’s next hotel is Golden Apple which is a good property as well although I didn’t try it.
Parking:
There is good amount of space for parking in the hotel itself, although a steep ascent is present. There is a pit as well outside the hotel where we parked our cars as we had to sleep outside the hotel at night because no one opened the gates for us at 1.00 AM ;D . You can easily park two cars in that pit side-on.
Pit we used for Car Parking…Place where we slept…

ATM:
Nearest ATM is at Reckong Peo, approximately 14-15 KM’s from Kinner Villa, Kalpa.
Petrol Pump:
Nearest ATM is at Reckong Peo, approximately 16-17 KM’s from Kinner Villa, Kalpa. There are two petrol pumps in Reckong Peo the first one near to town only serve GOVT. vehicles so you need to go further 1.5-2 KM’s from that one to get your tank filled.
Also you have a Petrol Pump at Powari which is 18 KM’s towards Shimla side from Reckong Peo.
Phone/Mobile:
The hotel has a PNT phone installed which can be used to make STD/ISD calls. As per the mobiles, AIRTEL, AIRCEL and BSNL works just good but there is no signal for VODAFONE at Kalpa.
Experience:
Rooms in Kinner Villa were decent although I felt them a bit over-priced. Rooms there lack room heater and quilts are presumably just like blankets. So, if you are one of those who finds cold ask for extra quilts/blankets at least surely in winters.

Verandahs…

Quality of food was good and flavored Punjabi style but tea /coffee I would say again was just at satisfactory level, at least for us. They serve their own apple farm juices which taste really delicious. So do try them if you are hitting this hotel. The dining area is downstairs along reception and is really spacious for the number of people hotel can accommodate.
Dining Area…

There is am ample space in the hotel outside where you can place the chair and just enjoy the sun in winters. There is a lobby as well where you can sit and contemplate the beauty of Kinner Kailash snow clad peaks. A lot of apple trees are grown as well in major part of in-out of hotel. If you are an apple lover place will just hit your soul.

Well for booze lovers, Liquor shop is at Reckong Peo. You can get the cigarettes for yourself as well from Reckong Peo itself. There are no shops nearby the hotel and hotel doesn’t provide this stuff. Hospitality we received from the staff was good and they were ready to serve anything provided we let them know in time.
For any medical assistance you will have to approach the Reckong Peo town but I think the town hospital is 8-10 KM’s from the hotel.
Attraction In-Around Hotel:
- Sit at the hotel and just fell in love with the views of Kinner Kailash range.
- You can certainly visit Roghi Village from hotel which is just 4 KM’s. They have great knowledge of the place, it flora and fauna and you can get quite a knowledge in the village.
- You may visit Kalpa as well as Reckong Peo towns/markets
- Sangla is approximately 65 KM’s from Kalpa back towards Shimla and is second part Kinnaur Valley. You can stay one night at Sangla and for surely visit Chitkul, located at more than 10000 feet’s above sea level. Chitkul is the end point of India after which China’s territory starts.
Conclusion:
In the end I must say the hotel is worth a stay although a bit over priced, but perhaps all good hotels at Kalpa would be in the same range. Also, do make sure that you reach before night or ask them to stay near reception if you will be arriving late in night.
