Cheap Budget Hotels or Accommodation in Leh – Ladakh

Moderate Budget Hotels or Accommodation in Leh – Ladakh

In this third article of the series – Preferred Hotels or Accommodation options in Leh – Ladakh, I am enlisting down some of the preferred places to stay in Nubra Valley – Ladakh which are cheap budget (Rs 300 – 500) types as well as moderate budget (Rs 600 – 1200) types accommodation and good for stay. So, if you are looking for a decent, clean and comfortable but moderate budget options of stay in Nubra Valley – Ladakh then you can refer the list of below guest houses or hotels compiled after reading various resources/reviews of many people over Internet mainly IndiaMike and BCMT forums (as said earlier, of course, I cannot stay in all of them ).

Most of these places are ideal to stay with family as well because they offer decent comfort and facilities which a family may require but looking out for moderate range budget accommodation options. However, if you are looking for an exceptional in-room service, finest linen, luxuroious and ultra comfortable rooms in a hotel and that too for this price range and in such remote places as some villages of Nubra Valley then perhaps this list may not be for you or I shall say this place (Nubra Valley – Ladakh) is not for you. Well, you may find one or two such services too in the below guest houses but no certainty.

Nubra Valley is one of the hottest tourist spot in Ladakh and Diskit is one of the town which people generally make the base to explore rest of the Nubra Valley. The biggest reason of Diskit being so popular is that it offers better and varied amount of accommodation options when compared to the rest of the places like Hunder, Panamik, Sumur, Turtuk in Nubra Valley being its head quarters. No doubt, Hunder is also starting to become popular with more and more options coming up.

Good Hotels or Accommodation options in Nubra Valley, Ladakh

Below, I have segregated the list of good accommodation options or hotels available in Nubra Valley by the villages viz. Diskit, Hunder, Sumur, Turtuk, Panamik etc. These are the villages in Nubra Valley mostly visited by the travelers and tourists. You can easily refer to the section of village where you plan to stay overnight on your trip to Nubra Valley in Ladakh.

Just aside the border walls of China, there lies another cold desert of India alike Ladakh, known as Spiti Valley. The breathtaking views, panoramic vistas and magical multi-colors mountains of this barren land makes it almost identical to Ladakh and at times even more beautiful. Such traits of Spiti Valley makes it another place after Ladakh from where only body comes back and souls keeps wandering somewhere there. Being a cold desert and less explored by the tourists, the Spiti Valley have limited accommodation options which are further constrained to its major towns such as Tabo and Kaza. Things are changing with time though and as the number of home stays are growing and improving, so as the number hotels and rooms in the existing hotels.

The whole Spiti Valley is broken into various scenic location segments which are unique in their own sense. I will not talk about each such segment in this article as IMHO it requires a dedicated Travel Guide on Spiti Valley (will come up shortly). However, just for the sake of information, there is one particular segment that makes you enter/exit Spiti Valley via Kunzam Pass traversing through a picturesque Losar village, which is infact one of the most scenic segment in entire region.

Losar at an altitude of 13,400 feet, about 56 KMs (2.5 Hrs of drive) away from Kaza (main town of Spiti Valley), is the last place (first if coming from Manali side) where one can get decent accommodation in Spiti Valley. There are few reasons why people opt to stay at Losar or shall I say must stay at Losar … Firstly, Losar is quite near to Chandratal, The Moon Lake (Read Travel Guide for Chandratal) and hence, people can easily make a day trip to the lake from Losar. Secondly, it cut short the distance between the long drive of Kaza – Keylong and Kaza – Manali by about 2.5 Hrs which becomes quite critical at times and in much difficult terrain ahead of Kunzam Pass. Last but not the least the drive from Kaza to Losar is one of the most scenic drives in Spiti Valley.

Losar is situated at an altitude of 13,400 feet or almost 4050 Mtrs, so proper acclimatization is highly recommended before you plan your stay at Losar else you can run into AMS (acute mountain sickness) and goof-up the whole travel plan. For more information/tips/precautions for AMS and importance of acclimatization, do read the article linked here

Guess enough of background and on coming back to topic, Losar village offers only handful of accommodation options to you ranging from PWD Rest House and few home stays. However, one of the properties that is available at your disposal is named "The Nomad Cottage". As an introductory statement, it is one of the most luxurious accommodation option available not only in Losar but I can say in the entire Spiti Valley. The whole cottage has been divided into two parts with one part offering a premium facility stay with all modern amenities for the ones who like it that ways and on the other side you have home stay kind of a section where you can feel the locale culture at its best, if required.

Bookings:

Booking can be done by calling at +91-9953613930 where you can find Mr. Sahil Duggal or you can email him at info@nomadicdestinations.com

If you land up directly at The Nomad Cottage, Losar then it might be possible that all the rooms (4 in number) would be booked. So, request you to make bookings before planning a stay there as there are limited options available in Losar for accommodation and you might run out of all of them.

Price:

I guess, the price (about Rs 1500 per room) is on the higher side as compared to what you may shell out on the other hotels in your entire Spiti Valley tour. But, with such a price there comes the quality as well as luxury and comfort which might be hard to find in any other hotel of whole Spiti Valley. The room conditions and comfort is top notch quality.

Parking:

There is ample of parking space near by cottage where about 18-20 cars can be parked. Having said that, parking is never an issue in entire Spiti Valley and it is totally safe to park your car at any nearby place you find space for your vehicle, whenever required.

Phone / Internet Facility:

Only MTNL/BSNL prepaid/postpaid connections work in Spiti Valley and that too up to Losar only. Ahead of Losar towards Kunzum Pass you will not find any connectivity or phone facility. You can of course take advantage of STD fixed landline phone available in Losar as well as at Nomad’s Cottage to make any calls, if you do not have any MTNL/BSNL. Internet facility is available at Losar as well as Kaza but prices may be little steeper as expected.

ATM:

There is single State Bank of India ATM in Kaza town which is about 56 KMs from Losar village.

Petrol Pump:

There is single Indian Oil Petrol Pump in Kaza town which is about 56 KMs from Losar village and that too is closed on Sunday or any other state/national holiday.

Medical Assistance:

There is a local dispensary at Losar and in fact a basic First-Aid kit can also be found at Nomad’s Cottage. In extreme case, you may need to go back to Kaza for comparatively advanced medical assistance.

First Hand Experience:

I never stayed at The Nomad Cottage but whatever I have heard/read of it from my co-travelers/friends who have stayed there, there were always praises for Sahil and his team and the Nomad Cottage too. Even the reviews of food quality have been great too though it mostly depends on individual taste. But, they serve many forms of Indian, Continental and Spitian food. You can also read more reviews, feedbacks and information from other people who have stayed at this place at the Nomad Cottage Facebook Page.

For more information on Nomad Cottage, you can also check the complete brochure at the link here.

Attraction In-Around Hotel:

The most sought after destination in Spiti Valley is Chandratal (Read Travel Guide for Chandratal) which is just about 25-30 KMs from Losar Village. Then, you have Kunzam Pass and plenty of hikes around. The Spiti River flows very near by and you can spend some quite moments on the bank of it sipping coffee/tea. Ki – Kibber are also about 2 Hrs of extremely scenic drive from Losar village.

Conclusion:

If you are one of those who love to live in luxury, do not have economic/low budget and tired or need change of basic stays available for the major part of your Spiti Valley tour then "The Nomad Cottage" is an ideal stay for you. If you are looking forward for some cheap/economic option or basic home-stay too, then it is better to try for some other accommodation. I am sure if you give it a try you will not come out disappointed even a bit

Ukhimath is the winter seating for the deity of Kedarnath. It also acts as base for the excursions to Deoria Tal and Tunganath, especially in the winter months when Chopta is snow bound. There are many accommodation options available at Ukhimath but we stayed at the Tourist Bunglow of GMVN. Let’s take a look at our experience on the stay and the rest of the complete review –

Complete Review of GMVN Tourist Bunglow, Ukhimath

Pictures:

Well, below you can check some pictures of the GMVN Tourist Bunglow, Ukhimath and the views it offers of Kedarnath and Guptkashi town…

Bookings:

Booking can be done by calling at 9568006692 or 01364-264236. For further information, you can also check the GMVN Official Website

If you land up directly at the Tourist Bunglow then you may ask the caretaker to offer more discount and tell him upfront that you will not need any bills for the records … If possible, he can manage much more discount for you in that case without any receipt though. This is common at most of the Tourist Bunglows of GMVN in Uttarakhand especially in off-season. Of course, during Yatra (Char Dham Yatra) time you will have to make the bookings well in advance.

Price:

The price is about Rs 300-600 for a double bed room and for a big room having two double beds i.e. which can accommodate 4-6 people is charged at a price of Rs 550-600. However, the room condition and comfort in this big room was very basic as compared to the other single double bed rooms accommodating 2-3 people. For more information on Tariff check the Ukhimath GMVN Official Website

Location:

Ukhimath, GMVN is located on the right-downside from the main road while coming from Kund and going towards Chopta. You will see the sign board for GMVN, from where a road about 5-6 Mtrs in length moves down to the GMVN Tourist Bunglow entrance gate.

Parking:

There is a space to park about 4-5 cars in the hotel complex at Ukhimath, GMVN Tourist Bunglow.

Phone Facility:

Phone facility along with STD is also available at the Hotel and they may charge for the calls you opt to make. Mobile signals for Airtel, Vodafone as well as BSNL works too at Ukhimath.

ATM:

Although there are number of ATMs on the route as well and we used Chandrapuri ATM which comes after Agustmuni and before Syal Saur. Chandrapuri ATM is the closest ATM because I guess there is no ATM present at Ukhimath.

Petrol Pump:

Nearest Petrol Pump is at Kund about 7-8 KMs before Ukhimath. I will suggest that you top-up the fuel either at Srinagar or Rudra Prayag.

Medical Assistance:

You can get the medical assistance at Ukhimath town. There are medical shops present in the Ukhimath town as well.

Personal Experience:

We stayed in big room as we were 4 in number. The room condition although was pretty damp but flooring was carpeted and beds were comfortable. The attached bathroom had basic bath fittings with geyser fitted for hot water supply. But, the size of the geyser was small in such large room and you will have to wait for too long to get the hot water if someone in the group had taken a bath prior to you. Hence, you need to split the bath time between the group as morning and evening … The views of Guptakashi and Kedarnath Peak from the door were awesome.

There was a dinning hall where you can have your meal. The food was nice and I liked the egg curry especially. The pakoras prepared for us on demand by Umeid were too good and we enjoyed to the fullest. The tea/coffee preparations were nice too and I must say that Umeid, the caretaker, is a very nice cook and prepares some tasty meals. The staff was very polite and courteous.

Attraction In-Around Hotel:

Well, apart from Deoria Tal there is Tunganath Temple as well. There are locale temples of Usha and Anirudh, Shiva and Parvati at Ukhimath. To get more details on the places you can check the links of travel guides for Tunganath and Deoria Tal below: Delhi to Deoria Tal, Uttarakhand | Travel Guide and Delhi to Tunganath Temple and Chandrashilla, Uttarakhand | Travel Guide

Conclusion:

If you are looking for decent and economic stay at Ukhimath, I guess the Tourist Bunglow at GMVN is a very nice choice and value for money (VFM).

There are quite a number of accommodation options available in pink city Jaipur. We were totally confused and landing very late in the evening we had very little time to search the options. Finally, we had no option other than to play safe and try Hotel Teej, RTDC. I would like to share my experience of it with you as well.

Complete Review of RTDC Hotel Teej, Jaipur

Pictures:

Below are some pictures of a Deluxe Double Bed Room at Hotel Teej, Jaipur

Bookings:

You can check for the bookings by calling phone number:

Contact Person: Mr. Surender Choudhary
Mobile: +91 9829058458
Tel: +91-141-2205482/2205473
Telefax: +91-141-2203199
Email: teej@rtdc.in

Also you can check the official RTDC Website for Hotel bookings at the following link: RTDC Hotel Teej, Jaipur Online Booking

Price:

The price is again a bit steep about Rs 1800 for a deluxe room which we took. The price is inclusive of breakfast meal. I find the prices of RTDC hotels not worthy enough when compared to the facilities, room comfort and cleanliness they offer. I guess they tend to charge tourists so much owing to the fact that they have just few months of tourist rush in winters but for me this is not justice. Also, the RTDC hotels sometimes gives you a feeling that you have entered some GOVT. Hospital or GOVT. Office and doesn’t feel like being a hotel. Anyways these are my personal views.

Location:

Opposite Moti Mahal Cinema Collectrate Road, Jaipur

Parking:

There is ample of space to park your vehicle in Hotel Teej premises.

Phone Facility:

Jaipur being the captial city of Rajasthan do not have any problems of phone connectivity at all.

ATM:

ATM is located in the nearby market of Jaipur.

Petrol Pump:

Petrol pump is also nearby Hotel Teej.

Medical Assistance:

You can find the medical assistance easily in Jaipur city.

Personal Experience:

We stayed in the deluxe room at Hotel Teej on the second floor. The corridors made us feel that we are in some GOVT. office or hospital but room was fine enough, at least the bed which we wanted to sleep. There was TV in the room and the attached bathroom was clean, a bit cramped but OK to live with it. The cleanliness and overall interior was also average types but at least bed didn’t make any creaking sounds while sleeping unlike Hotel Moomal, Jaiselmer.

There was a dinning hall where you can have your meal. The staff was not so courteous to us and the guy at the reception cum billing as well as the one serving the food were especially not nice talking to but again this is what you expect from the people living in a city. I am not sure why they were so frustrated whenever I looked at them, may be caught in a wrong job . The food tasted average types but at least the variety was different from others we had encountered so far on our Rajasthan trip. Anyways we just wanted to eat quickly and go to bed for sleep after a long day. I will not rate the food good but yes it was average. Perhaps if the same food was served at some desolate place where expectations are low, I would have rated it good but not in this case.

There is a lot of room to improve on the service, hospitality as well as food quality at Hotel Teej RTDC, Rajasthan

Attraction In-Around Hotel:

Since its Jaipur, you have all the tourist places in Jaipur at your exposal including local market, Ameir fort, Amber Palace, Jal Mahal, Hawa Mahal, Jantar Matar etc

Personal Travelogues:

Royale Rajasthan | A Crazy Run, Jaiselmer to Jaipur

Conclusion:

If you are one of those who prefer GOVT. hotels for being secure and do not count too much on luxury, good looks and comfort then you may opt for this Hotel. However, at such prices if you search a bit, I am sure that you can surely get a far better and comfortable deal at some private property or hotel in Jaipur city. For me not a good deal and thumbs down to it from my side.

Goa is a place in India where you can enjoy beaches with lots of parties to the core of the night. The environment runs mainly by the tourists alongside the beach areas. Hence, there is no lack of Hotels, Guest Houses etc. But, what would be more better than a place to stay from where you have beach just at the walking distance and a street full of exotic dine/restaurants on the gate itself. Great!!! I would say. But, I know you would be thinking that there would be tones of places in Goa but they are most like to dig a big hole in your pocket/wallet. But, there exist a similar place at Candolim Beach, Goa which won’t be heavy on your pocket and do provide a very, very comfortable stay. The place is called Ezue Bia Guest House, run by an old lady which is just 200 odd Meters from Candolim Beach. On our trip to Goa we stayed at his place for three days and we really enjoyed it. Check my trip at Delhi to Goa | Valentine’s Trip

Bookings:

Booking can be done by calling the old lady and he will keep your rooms ready. I think overall there are five to six rooms, so do book them in advance and ask for a room with Balcony. Here is the contact details,

Address: Mrs. Rose Desouza, Murrod Beach Road, Candolim, Bardez – Goa

Mobile/Contact No: +919637556065, 01793619430

Price:

Well we were charged 900 Rs per day with cost of water bottles extra but since it was the carnival and valentines time every hotel or guest house had a high price curve. The cleanliness, comfort, calmness and the lawn up front were just worth the money spent. I strongly feel it could be bargained anywhere between Rs 600- Rs 900 depending on the season time.

Location:

The Guest House is located just on the Murrod Beach road connecting the Candolim Beach behind Angaara Restaurant. When going towards Candolim Beach, you will see restaurant with two giant TV screens and it’s just opposite to that restaurant. The whole street is full of exciting dining areas and some very delicious ones. Don’t forget a meal or two at Angaara Restaurant which is almost in the premises of Ezue Bia Guest House. The cook there is amazing.

Pictures may better define the words and Here are some of the pictures which may help you judging the place…

Experience:

As far as our experience was concerned, it was just amazing. We had a great time staying there and the old lady was very helpful and compromising in keeping our luggage long after the check out on the final day. The only thing which I didn’t like and was common to other hotels in Goa was that "Even drinking water was excluded in the room rent". Something I never saw anywhere in the past. But thank god that they don’t charge for bathing water . Overall the place was very nice, clean, calm and most importantly comfortable. The balcony was indeed a blessing to enjoy the soothing weather in Goa while sipping tea or coffee or in fact gulping beer …Well there is no arrangement of food in the guest house but the restaurants are just on the street as you leave the guest house premises. In fact you should definitely have a meal at Angaara Restaurant which is almost in the premises of the Guest House. The street in front is full of night life but keep in mind that at Candolim Beach you will not find younger generation of tourists. It’s beach dominated by old age people/foreigners but it’s very very calm due to lack of vendors/sellers etc. A nice to place to enjoy sea…

Conclusion:

The place is highly recommended if you are looking for safe, nice, very very clean, comfortable, calm, peaceful, lively and moderately economic option of stay in Goa and that too stone’s throw from Candolim Beach as well as a street full of restaurants offering multiple cuisine.

Deoria Tal does not have much accommodation option available except the tented accommodation and one FRH for which officially the permission is required from either Rudraprayg or Gopeshwar. However, the caretaker may arrange the stay for you if you land there directly. We stayed in the tents arranged by Mr. Hira Singh Negi (more details below) who can also make arrangements in the FRH for you. Let’s take a look at our experience on the stay in those tents and the rest of the complete review –

Bookings:

Bookings can be done by calling Mr. Hira Singh Negi – 09410241543. He is a one stop solution for accommodation (tented or FRH), food etc at Deoria Tal. He will make all the necessary arrangements for you to stay at Deoria Tal. If required, he can also arrange the rooms at FRH which has the toilets as well. If FRH is required then contact him well in advance and tell him clearly that you will not stay in the tents/camps and need the FRH rooms anyhow.

Price:

Although you can pay him whatever you feel worth for his efforts and your overall experience at Deoria Tal. But anyhow, he charge about Rs 300-400 per person per night which includes dinner as well as breakfast and any round of tea or little snacks like boiled eggs or maggie. Since, our experience was too good we gave him about Rs 500 per person for the same as it meant a lot to this nice old fellow.

Location:

The camps are located just at the Deoria Tal and FRH is also present in the Deoria Tal complex but on the other side of the lake and the dhabhas.

Parking:

The road is not motorable to Deoria Tal. You will need to park your vehicle at Sari Village at any empty, safe place you find first. Mr. Hira Singh Negi will help you park the car at Sari Village, if you ask him to come down to pick you near BSNL tower. The parking is usually safe, at least it was safe for us.

Phone Facility:

Phone facility and electricity is not available at Deoria Tal. Mobile signals for Airtel and Vodafone was not much at Deoria Tal but BSNL and IDEA was working fine. You may find a bit poor connectivity in between at Deoria Tal.

You can get the medical assistance at Ukhimath town about 12-13 KMs away from Sari Village. There are medical shops present in the Ukhimath town as well.

Personal Experience:

We stayed in tents with proper beds (2 in number) easily accommodating three persons. But, to beat the severe cold we all decided to squeeze ourselves into one tent only on those two beds. I guess, in the night it became uncomfortable with 4 of us on two beds but none had the courage to go into the other tent in such extreme cold. There were quilts as well which were good in number to provide enough warmth. Overall it was a good choice but due to our mistake of accommodating 4 in one tent with other tent remaining empty, it got uncomfortable in the night. I suggest if you visit then do not take more than three in on tent, two would be much much better.

Hira Singh ji, runs as dhabha over at Deoria Tal where you will have your meals prepared by him. I must say that at such a location, you cannot ask for a better food and he prepared some decent meals for us. Dal and the local vegetable was tasty as well as spicy however the rice were partially cooked. You should carry your own cold drinks if you want to have some drinks up there as it could be possible that dhabha is out of stock with cold drinks. Mineral water was available with him but again I will suggest to carry your own incase it is out of stock.

Conclusion:

If you are looking for a stay at Deoria Tal either in camps or FRH then you must call Mr. Hira Singh Negi, I am sure you will not be disappointed by his arrangements at such a desolate place. There are few other people at Sari village who arrange the camping accommodation at Deoria Tal but I guess those guys runs a show and kind of charge too much too. The arrangements by Mr. Hira Singh Negi are genuine and authentic though.

There are quite a number of accommodation options available in Jaiselmer. Since, we did not wanted to take any chance with the private hotels and had good time so far with the HPTDCs, GMVNs, KMVNs in Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand we thought RTDC would be the best choice. Without second thought, we went to Hotel Moomal, RTDC in Jaislemer but there were quite few surprises waiting for us.

Hotel Moomal RTDC, Jaiselmer

Here is the complete review ofHotel Moomal, RTD, Jaiselmer in Rajasthan -

Well, below you can check some pictures of the Hotel Moomal Jaiselmer, RTDC…

Bookings:

You can check for the bookings by calling phone number:

Contact Person: Mr. SPS Bedi
Mobile: +91 9414014591
Tel: +91-2992-252392
Fax: +91-2992-252492
Email: moomal@rtdc.in

Also you can check the official RTDC Website for Hotel bookings at the following link: Hotel Moomal RTDC Online Booking

Do not trust the staff at the Hotel Moomal, Jaislemer for bookings as few of them sometimes send you to some other privately run business not Sam Dhani, RTDC in order to reap the benefits of handsome private commissions. So, do the booking yourself or else take the Sam Dhani, RTDC booking slip from the money you paid to the guy. One of them fooled us but we managed to reach Sam Dhani on our own and raised the matter to the manager, who accepted the glitch.

Price:

The price is a bit steep about Rs 1400 for a standard room which we took. I found that the prices of RTDC hotels not worthy enough when compared to the facilities, room comfort and cleanliness they offer. I guess they tend to charge tourists so much owing to the fact that they have just few months of tourist rush which is in winters but that is not fair at all if they give such a sh**. Also, the RTDC hotels sometimes gives you a feeling that you have entered some GOVT. Hospital or GOVT. Office and doesn’t feel like being a hotel. Anyways these are my personal views. Check the latest prices of Hotel Moomal at the following: Hotel Moomal RTDC Online Booking

Location:

It is located on the Sam Sand Dunes road just adjacent to the Air force Museum. As you enter in Jaiselmer from the main highway, continue going straight until you reach a T-Section. At the T-section you will see a fighter plane standing in the air force museum and just adjacent to that museum, towards right, you will find Hotel Moomal.

Parking:

There is ample of space to park your vehicle in the at Hotel Moomal RTDC, Jaiselmer.

Phone Facility:

All the major mobile networks work in Jaiselmer and you will not face any issues with phone connectivity.

ATM:

ATM is also available in Jaiselmer.

Petrol Pump:

You can find the petrol pump easily in Jaiselmer.

Medical Assistance:

You can find the medical assistance easily in Jaiselmer.

Personal Experience:

We stayed in the standard room at Hotel Moomal. The outside complex of the hotel was nice and spacious. The corridors made us feel again that we are in some GOVT. office or hospital and standard room was not even fine enough when you see Rs 1400 odd has been charged for it. The beds don’t know they were beds rather manji or charpai were making all types of creaking noise while you change positions in sleep. The cleanliness and overall interior was also below average and it was just a type of place where you can just spend the night if you have no choice and leave as soon as possible with first rays of light in the morning. There were spiders in the attached bathroom and it lacks basic bath fittings. All this at a price of 1.4 K was making me feel frustrated.

Rooms of Hotel Moomal Jaiselmer

Bathroom at Hotel Moomal Jaiselmer

The staff was nice to talk to and helpful apart from the one at the reception the first night. He cheated us with the bookings of Sam Dhani Hotel at Sam Sand Dunes. He took the money and didn’t give us the receipt and asked that with the final settlement he will give the receipt. Ultimately, we came to know that he wanted to send us to some private tented accommodation at Sam sand dunes not the RTDC Sam Dhani … Well all over Rajasthan the internal staff are like agents of some private operator and sell their services to tourists so as to earn themselves handsome commissions instead of promoting RTDC. Beware of this fact and ALWAYS ask for the receipt whenever you pay money to them.

There was a dinning hall where you can have your meal. There is a bar as well in the hotel complex but the entry - exit is from outside the lobby area. The food tasted OK types but you may like it for the first time being on the lighter side. We had been eating same monotonous food for quite sometime on the trip, so didn’t enjoyed to the level of satisfaction.

There is a lot of room for improvement on the CLEANLINESS as well as the standard of COMFORT at Hotel Moomal RTDC, Jaiselmer. I will say it was POOR when compared to price they charge for the room.

Attraction In-Around Hotel:

You can visit all the Jaiselmer local sightseeing spots including Gadisar Lake, Patwon Ki Haveli, Salim Ki Haveli, Sonar Fort, Lodurva , Sam Sand Dunes and Khuri Sand Dunes etc which are not very far from the Hotel.

Personal Travelogues:

Conclusion:

If you are one of those who prefer GOVT. hotels for being secure and do not count too much on luxury, good looks and comfort and even CLEANLINESS in this case, then you may opt for this Hotel. However, at such prices if you search a bit, I am sure that you can surely get a far better and comfortable deal at some private property or hotel in Jaislemer city. I will NOT RECOMMEND a stay at Hotel Moomal RTDC, as they didn’t even had the basics right i.e. cleanliness and comfort.

Have you ever stayed at Hotel Moomal or in any RTDC Hotel? If yes, please share your experience with us as well. I will look forward for your suggestions and inputs on the same in the comments section.

Bookings:

You can check for the bookings by calling phone number: 03014-207344 or check the official RTDC Website for Hotel bookings at the following link: Hotel Sam Dhani RTDC Online Booking

Price:

The price is a bit steep about Rs 2000 for cottages and Rs 1500 for tented accommodation on twin sharing basis. This includes 2 meals as well (breakfast and dinner). Well, Camel Safari, Snacks, Tea/Soup and Cultural Program are charged extra for about Rs 350 – Rs 400 per person.

Location:

It is situated right at the start of Sam sand dunes and you can easily locate it on your right side as soon as you reach Sam sand dunes. There is a big, tarred empty space in front of the hotel complex.

Parking:

There is ample of space to park your vehicle at Sam Sand Dunes.

Phone Facility:

Phone facility along with STD is also available at the Hotel and they may charge for the calls you opt to make. Mobile signals for Airtel as well as BSNL works too.

ATM:

No ATM is located nearby and you can find an ATM only in Jaiselmer.

Petrol Pump:

Nearest Petrol Pump again will be available in Jaiselmer about 45 KMs.

Medical Assistance:

Again there is nothing in the vicinity and you need to reach back Jaiselmer to get any medical assistance.

Personal Experience:

We stayed in the cottage not in the tents and I can say that Sam Dhani cottage room was the most comfortable of all the RTDC hotels we stayed on the trip. The rooms were round in shape, spacious and comfortable. The cleanliness was also up to the mark, in fact the best among all three RTDC hotel we stayed on our Rajasthan Trip. The attached toilets were also clean and had basic bath fittings. The views of Sand Dunes from the window was also pretty nice and there was ample space for sitting outside the rooms from where you can enjoy the views of Sam sand dunes to the distance.

There was a dinning hall where you can have your meal. Since, there isn’t any other option than to eat in the hotel complex, you have to live by the taste they offer. The food, I will say was monotonous on the whole Rajasthan trip and if you had been staying in other RTDC hotels on the previous days of the trip then you will find similar taste. However, it was not bad at all rather the best among all.

There was a bonfire place at the center where the cultural program is conducted in the evening. The staff was courteous too and offered nice hospitality there.

Attraction In-Around Hotel:

There is nothing but what you come to see, the "Sand Dunes". However, there was also a Desert National Park about 40 odd KMs ahead of Sam Dhani, where you can spot the wildlife too incase you are lucky enough.

Personal Travelogues:

Conclusion:

If you are looking for cemented room stay, which I prefer over tented ones then I guess Sam Dhani is a nice place for stay. However, being RTDC i.e. GOVT. types, you will not get the flashy things of cultural program with DJ that private operators are offering in the vicinity. Also, the tourists who stayed in the tents had issues with the cold wind blowing in the night and the cottage in which we slept was too cozy for that wind to act on us …

There are quite a number of accommodation options available in Leh to suit every budget. One of the good economic options for stay in Leh is Shanti Guest House, just stones throw from Shanti Stupa and Changspa road. I had an opportunity to stay there in my Ladakh journey and here is the review for the same-

Shanti Guest House, Leh, Ladakh

Here is the complete review of Shanti Guest House, Leh – Ladakh —

Pictures:

Strange but true that due to some unavoidable circumstances (Leh -Ladakh flash floods), we didn’t click a single picture during our two day stay at Shanti Guest House …

Bookings:

Booking can be done by calling at one of these numbers

+91-1982-253084 or +91-1982-250023

Mobile: +91-9419178760, +91-9419888833, +91-9906982118

You can also check the web site at: Shanti Tours and Travel

The hotel almost runs full throughout the season so its always better to either book in advance or atleast ask them to keep the rooms for you

Price:

We got a room with four beds i.e. two double beds at a price of Rs 800 per day. The single double bed rooms were available for 300-500 per day. Of course, on the quoted prices overtelephone you always have the option to bargain and generally the pricing is in the range mentioned above. It is one of the economic and decent option of stay which is nearby Changspa road and Shanti Stupa. Main market is about 2 KM walk from the hotel.

Location:

It is situated right on the Shanti Stupa road just ahead of Shanti Stupa. If you are coming from Changspa road towards Shanti Stupa, then you need to take a right from T-section to reach the hotel. If you are coming from Airport towards Shanti Stupa then continue straight ahead of Shanti Stupa untill you see the Shanit Guest House towards your left side.

Parking:

There is no room for parking inside the hotel. You will need to park your car on the road outside the hotel.

Phone Facility:

Phone facility along with STD is also available at the Hotel.

ATM:

ATMs are located in main market of Leh town and near Leh taxi stand, which are at a walkable distance of about 2-3 KMs.

Petrol Pump:

Fuel is available at Petrol pump in Leh town.

Medical Assistance:

You need to approach local Leh hospital for any medical assistance.

Personal Experience:

Rooms in the hotel were on the average side but if the price is taken into account then I shall say it was a very good deal. The rooms were basic and the cleanliness was up to the mark in the rooms. There was no TV in the room ( but there was one TV in dining room), atleast the one which we took. The bathroom in our room was not so clean as the rains have caused the mud to get onto the floor from the window. However, we were disappointed that it never got cleaned during our stay of two days. So, it was a bit turn-off. However, the situation was a but different at that time because of havoc caused by the floods.

There was a dinning room with ladakhi style sitting to experience the culture and a lawn as well in the hotel where you can have your meal. We didn’t take any meal there owing to the fact that Changspa road was in the vicinity which offers wide varities of cuisines. But, we tried Maggie at the hotel which was nice. The two ladies taking care of the hotel at that time, prepared the food.

There was a little garden at the back where you can relax your nerves if you like. The terrace of the Hotel also offered some really nice views of Shanti Stupa and the other side of it too.

Overall it was a pretty good stay and the price tag makes it complete VFM (value for money) stay option.

Attraction In-Around Hotel:

One can visit Shanti stupa, Changspa Road, Leh Main Market, Leh Palace etc from the hotel.

Conclusion:

If you are looking for the economic and decent option of stay and find yourself comfortable with basic/homes stay type accommodation then this hotel may certainly suit your style. Not recommended, if you are looking for greater comfort and luxury stay with price being not the factor for you.

Leh is the major town of Ladakh region and offers wide variety of accommodation options. Leh offers plenty of places to stay which suits wide form of pockets. Right from the economic to expensive and luxurious, Leh has it all. We landed up at Leh in the middle of peak tourist season and unfortunately most of hotels were closed for us. After a lot of on the spot search, we finally got success to find an accommodation for us. It was Hotel Chubi and we were offered just 2 days of accommodation because after that Hotel Chubi or Hotel Chube was also booked completely for weeks to come … Read below for the complete review –

Pictures:

First and foremost, as my trademark saying goes pictures are better than thousand words. Take a look at the pictures of Hotel Chubi below -

Bookings:

Booking can be done by calling Mr. S. Rigzin Chubi at one of these numbers

+91-9419242514

+91-1982-253456

Try to mail them at: chube_leh@rediffmail.com or rigzin_chube@yahoomail.com

Price:

We got double bedded rooms (2 in number) at the price of Rs 800 per day. I guess the charges were too much as compared to the conditions of the room but we had no choice rather to take them. It was the costliest stay for us and perhaps the last when it came to room conditions.

Location:

Hotel Chubi or Chube is located very near to the Changspa road. You need to take a right turn from Changspa road T-section and at the end of the road take a left turn. You will find this Hotel on the left side in that lane. We walked quite a few times between Hotel Chubi and Changspa road, so its not very far from it.

Parking:

There was a no parking space available in the hotel. You will need to park the car outside the hotel just aside road. There was an empty land as well very near to hotel and I guess can be used for parking as well.

Phone Facility:

Phone facility along with STD is also available at the Hotel, the market and the Changspa road as well. The mobile connectivity was there for both Airtel and BSNL.

ATM:

There are I guess three ATMs in Leh town and are not too far away from the Hotel Chubi. Two of them are near Taxi stand and one in the main market.

Petrol Pump:

To get the fuel, you need to go to the Petrol Pump in Leh town.

Medical Assistance:

For any medical assistance you will have to Leh town hospital, not too far away.

Personal Experience:

Rooms in the hotel provided average level of comfort. There was a dampness in the room and the low light made it even more damp. The rooms were not so cozy but they were quite clean. The attached bathrooms having hot water supply were also clean. There was no TV in the room … A small garden was there in the hotel which had some lovely flowers as you say in the pictures too. I guess the dampness and low light was a big turnoff in terms of room.

Quality of food in the restaurant was really nice and the taste of tea /coffee was also good. We had the breakfast there which was quite good. Hospitality we received from the Uncle and Aunty was good too and they were quite friendly to talk to.

Attraction In-Around Hotel:

Leh Main Market, Leh Palace, Changspa Road and Shanti Stupa are the not too far away from the Hotel Chubi.

Personal Travelogues:

Conclusion:

In the end, I can say that it was an AVERAGE experience for us at the Hotel Chubi when we consider the price. You can try it if you cannot not find booking at any other hotel or at similar price. Personally, I didn’t like the rooms due to dampness but the food served in the restaurant tasted great and the garden in the hotel complex is lovely to refresh the fatigue of the days journey.

Please let me know in case you need some details. If you have ever stayed at Hotel Chubi / Chube, kindly spare two minutes to share your experience with others too, as comments. Your inputs could be valuable inputs for the person searching for some option of stay.
